de-Legitimization Hamas by addressing the issues that the Palestinian people, not the militants, care about. Displacement of people who have lived in their homes for centuries due to colonization. These are real issues that need to be addressed... it doesnt mean someone should turn to militantism to address it, but it does mean that there are real gripes.

Yea but while Fatah was in power israel continued to expand illegal settlements, cause significant collatoral damage fighting extremists, etc.

Israel's lack of compromise with Fatah when they were in power is how hamas came to power. Hamas kept feeding and paying people in palestine. They were the ones with hospitals, clinics, food, shelter, funding schools and helping the poor while Fatah was viewed as impotent and powerless in negotiation with Israel.

This is what happens when you pick an extreme and dont compromise, you get the worst case scenario. To fix that Israel has to stop being on the extreme opposite end and return to direct discussion and concessions to the PEOPLE, not hamas, but the PEOPLE. Want to start winning people over? Start building hospitals, schools, and promoting commerce between the two peoples.

The PNA under Arafat had their chance. They could have had almost all the land and some of a partioned Jerusalem when Clinton did his Camp David summit in 2000. The stupid arabs said no after Ehud Barak gave in to just about everthing but the right to return (a death sentence to the Jewish state). Screw the Palestinians. Hamas is responsible for their deaths; the Israelis are not. Killing women and children is terrible, but these things happen in a war. I'm not trying to justify it, I'm just stating a fact. World War II had more civillian casualties than any other war in the history of humanity. (it was also the bloodiest war in the history of humanity)

I'm not entirely "anti israel" but I do believe they have been intransigent in dealing with the palestinians who truly have a valid claim on the land Israel occupies as a result of the Balfour declaration.

But I'm not losing any sleep over civilian deaths in Gaza. I am also not losing any sleep over civilian deaths in Tel Aviv, either. Things are just coming to a head, and Israel has the bigger and badder weapons.

I am confused because you say that you are a lefty, but you do not support Israel.

The only reason that Israel even exists is because Truman (D) supported its establishment. Without that support and continued American support thereafter, Irael would not exist today.

Truman's support of Israel locked in the American Jewish vote (and monetary support) for the Democratic Party. That support continues to this day. In 2012, 69% of the Jewish vote went to Obama despite his lukewarm rhetoric regarding Israel during his first term, so don't go thinking that The Messiah will abandon Israel (pay attention to his actions, not his words).

When (not if) a full-blown war breaks out in Gaza, we will be one of the major players, like it or not. It is not an issue of right or left, it is simple economics.
