Tiger man is dead
Posted by: Numbers ()
Date: November 14, 2012 07:36PM

A US man famous for undergoing extreme body modifications to look like a tiger has died aged 54.
Dennis Avner won a Guinness World Record in 2009 for having the most surgical procedures to look like an animal, with striped facial tattoos, fangs, whiskers and pointed ears.

The 54-year-old, who was known by his Native American name Stalking Cat, was found dead in his Nevada home on November 5.

The cause of death has not been released but New York Daily News reports it may have been suicide.

Any more updates on his death? Was it definitely a suicide? That's fucked up to go through that many body modifications and then just off yourself.

I'd say that the two aren't unrelated.

He hated it when people didn't immediately recognize he was supposed to be a Tiger. The final straw came when someone confronted him about his suicide threats by saying "What are you, chicken?"

I'd probably kill myself too, if I woke up one day and realized that I'd spent all that time and money to make myself look like the world's dumbest tiger.

From his Wikipedia page:

"Avner, whose parents were of Huron and Lakota heritage, stated that altering oneself to resemble one's own totem is an ancient Huron tradition."

A) I wasn't aware there were a lot of tigers in North America.

B) Thank the gods he didn't pick an actual North American animal as his totem, like a vulture or an armadillo.

Meow, committing sucide is a serious matter, meow, but when you like a a cat what do you expect, meow?

He followed his convictions. Not many can say that. I wouldn't do what he did, but not many would. Despite what the world said about him, or the fun "normal" people made of him, he continued to do (body modifications, spiritual path) what his personal values led him to.

I can respect that.

If all you can do is make fun of the man, or his death, you need to get a better life. Try living his. Walk a mile in his shoes. Find something you believe in so strongly that it leads you to extreme measures. No? Don't have the guts to face the stares and comments? Then don't put this man down because he did.

Stifle yourself, Edith.

Joseph Merrick and Stephen Hawking were dealt a less than "normal" hand.

They faced everything you describe above.

They didn't ask for it, tiger man begged for it.

He was a drama queen who's end didn't come soon enough.

Bullshit. He claimed he did all that work on himself because he was following an "old Huron tradition," but how many other members of that indian tribe are undergoing extensive body modifications to look like their totem animals?

Also, like I said, tigers aren't native to Northern America, so his claim makes even less sense. Unless there's another Huron indian out there getting himself pierced and tattooed to look like an elephant, his justification is extremely flimsy.

I'm not digging up the man's shoes. Gross. What's wrong with you?

That's bullshit, too. Just because someone doesn't want to put on some sort of freakshow display for the world doesn't mean they lose their right to have an opinion.

I bet he saved a bundle on water bills by using a litter box instead of a toilet and licking himself clean instead of a bath.

Tiger man was a douchebag.

Him being dead does not change that.
