No new farm bill has been signed into law leaving the agency without authorization for some future programs.

“This October is the time we make the payments for the 2012 crop year,” said Judy Nohrenberg, director of the agency in Jamestown.

These payments include any direct or countercyclical payments authorized for crops grown in 2012 and covered by the farm bill that just expired.

October is not a time Norhrenberg expects to see farmers in the office. Most are too busy wrapping up harvest and fall work to be concerned with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s paperwork for the next year.

“A little activity in December but most in January,” she said. “But until we see the programs and forms there really won’t be anything we can do to work with the farmer for next season.”

One segment of the farm industry has more immediate concerns about farm legislation.

“Dairy will be among the first parts of the farm sector affected,” said Gary Hoffman, executive director of the North Dakota Dairy Coalition. “The old farm bill had a little protection for dairy. The Senate version had some better protection. The dairy industry is in peril by the lack of action by the House.”

I'm a farmer - corn, soy bean, sorghum, sugar beets, and tree fruit. I work full time at another job just to make ends meet. Have to split my time between my farm and home in Fairfax.

One things for sure - there ain't no way in hell I am voting for Romney or any other Republican. Pretty much the same for most of my neighbors who farm for a living.

Drove up and down Rt 340 from Luray to Waynesboro yesterday. The only Republican signs you see are next to dirt poor double-wide trailers, shitty Mom & Pop stores and small businesses, or on blue blood horse estates (few and far between).

Real farmers know that House Republicans intentionally delayed action on the 2012 Farm Bill, Job Creation, and that they intentionally delayed any legislation that would help with an economic recovery for America just to unseat the black fella in the White House.

The Republicans fucked the wrong people this time.

Stop lying. I travel that area frequently, they have zero use for the current socialist president. The only area Obama carried near there was Albemarle. The rest voted for McCain by 60% to 35% Obama.

The only reason Barry carried Albemarle was UVA which was full of starry eyed college students believing his promise of free college for everyone. I imagine your farm is two acres with a couple of apple trees, five tomato plants and a truck tire painted white.

My bullshit detector went off too. I own a small farm in Ohio
and make frequent trips to manage the property. I know all the
other farmers in the area since I grew up there and not one that
I know would vote for Obama. To really put the icing on the cake
it's in John Boehner's District.
