Whats it like out there? I got the East Coast blues!

Las Cruces, NM is a really beautiful area.

San Antonio is the only place in Texas worth going to. Lots of places in the highlands of Arizona and New Mexico are beautiful. But over all I agree with Gravis...hot and dry. I can understand why the illegals try and get as far away from the border as quickly as possible.

San Antonio is a nice city, but I'd also add Austin to the list of cool places in Texas. It's got diversity, a lot of college kids (i.e. a younger, less white trash redneck populace), good restaurants and music venues... I think it's the only place in Texas I'd want to live in. The rest of the state is pretty ho-hum, alot of small rural communities and hordes of cowboy-hat wearing morons with delusions of grandeur due to the size of the landmass they call home. Trust me, the stars at night look the same in Texas as they do in Northern VA.

i've lived in california for a while. In a small developing town, and now I hear the place has gone to shit. After spending the same amount of time in VA, it's hard to choose which I liked more. But I would probably pick CA

If you want to get away from people, New Mexico is a good bet, especially in the summer time. Santa Fe is very touristy. But northern New Mexico is a little cooler weather wise and not so crazy with people. I like Los Alamos and Taos. The drive between the two is stunning. You could also go to Bandelier National Monument. It is full of cave dwellings, etc, like Mesa Verde, but is less well known, so it isn't inundated with people with cameras from the East Coast. If you have car and time, you could also travel into southern Colorado to see the sand dunes and the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Im agreeing with you too much recently...but I too would add Austin to the nice places in TX...I sometimes think the 2 of them as one place. They arent too far apart if my memory serves me correctly.

Another nice place is downtown Fort Worth. It is the antithesis of Dallas.

oh memories. I had a platinum badge for 1996 and 1997 SXSW. I have fond memories of those times. One show I saw was Sun Volt, Jr Brown and Lucinda Williams at the Austin Music Hall. The last munute surprise appearance by Liz Phair and some dive bar. Kristin Herch from whatever band she was in sitting in a coffee house singing and strumming her guitar. Iggy Pop and Joan Osborn performing on the 6th street stage..... Johnny Cash, the Kurt guy from Nirvana...

It was funny because both years it seemed everyone was bitching (it was the cool thing to do) that SXSW Music Festival had 5000 people, 700 bands over 5 days and just gotten "too big". It is probably twice the size by now.

Now I am married. No more kicking back in Austin.

Exactly, thank you.

He gave a speech and it was at 10:00 am or something and was very lightly attended. He was very well spoken.

When it came far Q and A, a guy from High Times magazine kept asking him really dumb questions about drugs. Kris did his best to answer the question in a non controversial manner but eventually said to the guy "This is not the time nor place, catch me later!"

I think they guy might have gotten some better answer if he did not say EVERY time he opened his mouth "I am so and so, High Times magazine...." and then ask the question.

Why do you use the word redneck and white trash. Are you a racist?

Phoenix kinda bland but it's OK. The heat is a lot easier to take without the humidity but you have to be careful of sunburns. Flash floods are also a problem. Oh and then there's the snakes.

Salt Lake City is interesting to visit but no place I'd want to live. Antelope Island, Alta, and the Morman Temple compound are all interesting tourist destinations. After that it gets thin.

Texas has more cities that feel like real cities to someone from the East. Except for California of course where you can find more traffic than you'll ever need to see.

I'm not the one who talks like that. But you are.

Your parents must be proud of you.

Don't mind him. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another of Meade's alter egos;
the racist stepchild they kept locked in a closet.

Oh FUCK YOU. I'm so tired of reading your shit.

By the way, what exactly is a "meeper?"

The only definitions I could find referred to a vagina, a meth addict or an Asian. If I had to guess I'd say you were the pussy.

Good, reach behind your computer and pull the plug out. That'll take care of your problems pretty quickly.

(and BTW, my user name has nothing to do with disgusting sex humor, drugs, or asians)

Uh, have you ever been "out west?" Spend some time in San Antonio, Phoenix or Albuquerque. They make NoVA look like Vermont.

Its a different kind of heat. Its much more humid over here. I dont consider Texas the South, BTW. Or Florida.

I was talking about the "Wetbacks," as you call them. Also, Texas and Florida were part of the Confederacy, so technically they are in "the South."

I went to Sedona in March for a hiking trip. The temps were mild, usually in the 60's but the nights got a little nippy. The scenery was beautiful and we went on two hikes a day, one long like 4 hours and then a shorter one like for two hours. Shopping was expensive and there definitely is a New Age element there. Lots of shamans and crystals and vortex tours. I never did figure out what a vortex was. Nothing special to me but the books all made a big deal about them. I had an awesome massage and pedicure at a spa. I saw coyotes. The drive from Phoenix was pretty boring but Sedona was a great place for hiking and taking cool pics like the ones above.
