Dusting
Posted by: MrMephisto ()

Seriously, what's the point of this housecleaning activity? All it accomplishes is throwing the dust into the air where it will eventually re-settle on all available surfaces.

What's the best alternative to dusting?

The best alternative, if you have rubber bed sheets and floor drains in every room, is to spray everything down with water.

My mom used to vacuum first, dust last for the same reason you described. You run the vacuum and dust just covers everything.

Get Meade to come over in one of those sexy little French maid outfits. Have him suck (with a vacuum) all the dust away.

I didnt realize the OP lives in a cardboard box. Well, the hosing down method wont work...but upgrading to a large plastic storage container will!

Harder than you'd think. Since it doesn't have any doors or windows, dust accumulates on my collection of doll heads, old toothbrushes, and soda cans pretty rapidly.

> JK, how's it going Phist?

Pretty good! The other day, I screamed obscenities at traffic for two hours, sniped 14 cigarettes, and ate a raw pigeon for dinner. It was good times.

A moist rag will keep a lot of the dust from floating into the air... of course, there'll always be more dust... but, seriously... Why are we still dusting? Why haven't we solved the dust problem.

It's twenty-fucking-twelve... how hard could it be to eliminate dust?

Have you seen the number of quarries around here?

My area has THREE quarries - Northwest, West, Southwest - all perfectly positioned to send whatever they produce on the prevailing winds out of the...west.

It's 2012... Why can't we have a little box in our house that zaps dust into oblivion?

Leave it alone.

It will act silently as a layer of "security dust".

Always check for clean spots once your "friends" have left your cardboard box.

I dust fairly regularly because I am allergic to it. Once my nose starts getting stuffed up I know it's time to change the bedding, run a wet rag over all the furniture in my bedroom(especially the nightstand) and vacuum the floor.

My nose clears up within a day after I do that.

That is the best excuse for laziness I've ever heard. I tip my hat to you, sir.

I keep asking, but eesh refuses to do the dusting. No matter how many times he "runs into a door," I still can't get him to do the housekeeping.

You know, because we're gay homosexual lovers.

I can top that one easy...true story.

When my kids were babies we had huskies. Three of them. If you know anything about huskies you understand the massive amounts of hair they shed year round.

One sunday afternoon during a football game my wife asked if I was ever going to vacuum up what had become a shag rug that was once a hard wood floor. My response?

"If I vacuum, I'll never know which way the kids crawled away while I wasn't watching them"

On rainy days, I still walk with a limp.

It's always good to fill up a used pillow case with unpopped corn, wrap it real good first. usually a pound or so. i then beat the floors & carpets with the cornbag, and use diluted vinegar to eliminate smells. the corn will attract dust and dustmites better than any cleaning product (shake it hard!), and it's good for your sinus. empty the corn and wash the pillow, job done!

I share that thought. I just ignore it until I can no longer stand it, then hire someone to clean my house. The cleaners always disappoint me so I never have them come back. I need a house frau.

I had a similar experience. A few years ago, my wife asked that I put our toddler age daughter to bed. She handed me a book and instructed me to read it. The problem was that it was a Carl book, the series about the Rottweiler, which is only pictures - no words. Like a smart ass, I pointed this out, to which she basically said "improvise". Well, let me tell you, that started a 6 week period of some of Carl's craziest adventures. Carl exhumed dead bodies in the park, he trained for a dog fighting match in Detroit, and he even mauled some orphans and was euthanized. I am not sure which one actually led to the discovery on the part of my wife - I know my daughter to this day still talks about the time Carl ate his own poopoo and shared with the baby - perhaps it was that one. At any rate, the wife caught on, I caught hell, and was duly beaten.
