I have no problem with Truman using the A-Bomb on the Japanese. Frankly, the fire bombing of Tokyo was much worse than what happened at Hiroshima, yet no one wants to apologize for that.

Also, the Japanese are not "chinks." The proper term is Japs or Nips.

Really? Seems to me he tried to get Osama bin Laden several times. Each time, the Republicans accused him of "wagging the dog."

I think Clinton could have done more. But the fact is the American people - and the Republicans in Congress - didn't appreciate how much of a threat Osama bin Laden was until 9/11. Was Clinton supposed to invade Afghanistan? I mean, the guy got a rash of shit for interceding in Bosnia and Kosovo and I don't believe either of those conflicts resulted in American casualties. Could you imagine what would have happened if Clinton had gone into Afghanistan in 1998 during the whole impeachment witch hunt???

Actually, Clinton could have had him in Khartoum, but let him get away...

The fire bombing of Tokyo and the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are a case of the victors being able to write the history. If we had lost the war all those instances would have been declared war crimes and our political/military leaders would have been subject to trial.

The title of that article is "U.S. Was Foiled Multiple Times in Efforts To Capture Bin Laden or Have Him Killed"...not "U.S. Let Bin Laden Get Away". There's a reason for that. Most of the article describes a dliberative thought process where intelligent people tried to forsee the consequences of their actions, unlike the Bush Administration that twisted the truth and lied to justify a decision they had already come to.

It is interesting to see Bush continue his argument about Iraq on the basis of that the world is better off without Sadam. I wonder if the 650,000 innocent civilians killed in Iraq since our invasion would agree?

Uhhh, except it has been proven since this article in October 2001 that while bin Laden was in Sudan, he was never in the custody of the Sudanese. The Sudanese would have had as much luck picking the guy up as Musharraf has had in Pakistan - none.

General Curtis LeMay (who oversaw the firebombing of Tokyo)

----at least he didn't pile trillion$$$$$$$ in debt onto the backs of our grandchildren with "borrow and spend" fiscal policies. Its not like he nearly doubled the national debt in 8 years.

FYI, we had a catastrophic fire-bombing campaign against Japanese cities in WWII. More land was destroyed in Tokyo by these fire raids than was destroyed in the nuclear attacks.

The Japanese learned the hard way the cost of an out of control military industrial complex. I wonder what it will take for us to learn the same lesson?

Tokyo was never nuked. It was fire bombed with incendiary devices.It was basically like we napalmed the city. More than 125,000 people burned to death.

I agree...Bush...Rice...Cheney were all asleep at the wheel. You know what really irks me? One simple thing could have stopped 9/11...if cockpits had been locked and reinforced to stop unauthorized entry the entire thing wouldnt have happened. It's not as if we hadnt been having high jackings for years prior to 9/11.

if they impeach Bush we get CHeney. How cRaZeE would that be? Thats why it never happened. Cuz everyone is afraid of giving CHeney More power.
