Bristow
Date: February 25, 2009 04:34PM

Okay, so I'm *FINALLY* on the market to buy a house, maybe sometime this year or most likely *next* year. I've been looking all over and Bristow is looking pretty nice. The houses are cheap and huge.

That being said, I work in Reston and I'm sure the commute is going to be bad.

Anyone have any experience with the commute? The area?

Gainesville is a horrible place the commute from, but the houses are great.

If you are commuting to Reston, I would suggest you take a look at South Riding near Dulles. It will be a better commute.

I live in Broad Run Oaks (behind VA Oaks) and work in Herndon. If you leave at 6:15, you will be in Reston by 7am. If you leave at 7, you will be there at 8:15. If you leave at 7:30, you will be there at 9:00-9:15am. Coming back is about the same, starting at 3:30pm.

The traffic sucks from Route 234 business to Route 28, then it slows again at the FFX Co. parkway.

South Riding isn't much better, but there are more back roads to take. From Bristow, it's pretty much 66 or 29 into Centreville and then through Fairfax...

I live in Piedmont, it takes me 20 min on a good day to get to Ffx County Pkwy (Fair Lakes), and 45 min on a bad day - I usually leave around 8am. I've had to stop in my office and then head to Reston, and I've made it in about an hour from Gainesville taking Ffx County Pkwy.

You can always take Gum Springs to Rt 50, and then take 606 to Herndon Pkwy to Reston - mileage, it's longer, but it's quicker as there isn't a ton of traffic.

I wish they would build the 234 extention to Dulles!!

I used to take Gum Springs road way back in the "turn of the century". It was sweet. You maybe saw 10 cars on any given day. I could blow home in 1/2 the time. Now it's asses to elbows!!! I stopped using that once 66 was opened up. I've found it takes longer to go the Gum Springs route. (29 to Pageland, to 234, to Gum Springs, to 50...)

Hah!, my cousins and I used to live right there at 234 and Gum Springs and we would throw rocks and shoot bottle rockets at the yuppies driving their cars on our country road. You commuters and those damn Luck Stone trucks ruined our childhood as we could never play on the road. Lucky for you i'm still in the gene pool and i've learned to use the interwebs.

...and no, i'm not white trash.

You sure you're not white trash? What else did you do with your cousins?

Funny....cause the house "right there at 234 and Gum Springs" is definitely white trash, if I do say so myself.

Yup. Definitely white trash. The house next to the church had a horrendous cat problem a few years ago. The people failed to take care of the issue, until the P.W. animal control came out. Sadly, some of the animals didn't make their fate and were victims of the cars on Gum Springs Road.

Hopefully, you didn't end up buying in Bristow. I believe when the school redistricting was completed, Bristow and Victory Lakes were tossed into the Stonewall Jackson district. Lots of P.O. homeowners right now in those areas because their children will not be going to the new high school that's going to open up right before the coming school year this next fall.

Had you checked you would find out that Victory Lakes is zoned in to the new high school.

Here's some interesting information that indicates Victory Lakes is still grouped with Stonewall Jackson.

Always thought SJHS was one of the better high schools around. Time mag. best Newsweek accolade, etc.

But Bristow does have it's draw backs. Drug murder(s), illegal alien Nun killers, illegal death dealing day care center(s), but oh lest I forget they've got Harris Teeter!

Why does PWC have so many pregnant teens? Yikes! Parents please explain birth control to your kids.

Time Magazine's School of the Year. In 1999.

It's 2012 and how times have changed.
