I remember late last summer when Guy Fieri ran for the Lincolnia Comptroller position and was handing out bro-sure's at the long-abandoned (and now empty) Sizzler's on Rte 29 in Fairfax. The handout was a picture of a 1993 Ibanez Custom 7 string electric guitar with a medium-rare porterhouse laying across the fretboard and Guy in the background pretending to high-five you. I'm still not entirely positive that A. Lincolnia even HAS a comptroller and B. Guy knows what a Comptroller is. He seems to believe it was someone who was in charge of the soundboard during local parade events so I'm guessing (based on past experiences) that he was excited at the chance to blast a little (lot) Tesla during the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

But that fact did not slow Guy down for an instant when he claimed to have come across some old soul food secrets while he was homeless and occassionally staying in the basement of a poor black family in Mississippi. This of course was not true, Guy had in fact lost his motel keys on the way back from yet another terrifyingly close brush with death at a local dive bar in New Orleans. He had apparently emptied the cupboards and his clothes were covered in vegetable oil and cornmeal. After a lot of screaming and the man of the house punching Guy in the kidneys twice, he was dragged onto the lawn to be collected by the police. This incident is remembered very differently by Guy who did a forced guest appearance on Emril's show claiming that as a young man he had lived with a poor black family in eastern Mississippi and spent the summer working on the farm and learning their family recipe for shrimp cornmeal cakes with southern gravy. He said they would work all day in the hot sun, then have a huge dinner, and spend the evening singing old negro spirituals. Wiping away a tear, Guy described how he felt like a true-born member of that family.
