Loudoun County & Town of Leesburg Cooperatively Accept Tax Payments

The County of Loudoun and the Town of Leesburg announce that each jurisdiction will now accept real estate and personal property tax payments for the other. Thanks to state legislation sponsored by Senator Mark Herring and Delegate Joe May, the Town of Leesburg’s residents may now make payments at the county’s two Treasurer’s Office locations in Sterling or Leesburg. They may also pay their county tax bills at the Town Hall location in Leesburg.
This is a result of action by Treasurer Roger Zurn in seeking state legislative changes and then working with Leesburg Town Manager John Wells to help obtain a cooperative agreement between the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and the Leesburg Town Council. “It just made sense that taxpayers should be able to pay at one location both their town and county taxes rather than make them visit two separate locations,” said Zurn. Town Manager John Wells said; “the Town Council values its taxpayers and looks to make government as convenient and accessible as possible.”
Town residents must make separate checks payable to the proper locality and have their respective tax bills with them. The town and county may only accept checks or cash. “Given that October 5th is the due date for both county and town personal property taxes, this service should be timely for the citizens,” Zurn added.
