A Lansdowne man was charged Tuesday with felony hit-and-run after authorities said he injured a mother and her daughter who were waiting for a light on Belmont Ridge Road.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Justin David Hughes left a bar in Lansdowne Town Center on the evening of April 22, got into his vehicle and drove north on Belmont Ridge Road.
Hughes then lost control of his vehicle and shot over the median, plowing into the mother and child who were in a minivan waiting at a traffic light to drive south, authorities said.
Hughes, while allegedly attempting to flee the scene of the accident, then struck the minivan a second time. Authorities said he then was followed and seen speeding through a residential neighborhood in Lansdowne.
Witnesses identified Hughes and Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies questioned him shortly after the incident at his home on Lees Mill Square.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kraig Troxell said that Hughes was formally charged with felony hit-and-run on the morning of April 26.
The passengers in the minivan Hughes allegedly struck were taken to Inova Hospital in Lansdowne for minor injuries, Troxell said.
This is a developing story.
