Loudoun County’s server virtualization program is receiving national attention through State Tech magazine, which has produced a video that is prominently featured on the magazine’s website. The video spotlights Loudoun’s program, which allows for multiple servers to be housed in a single physical unit, resulting in greater energy and resource efficiency by increasing virtual capacity and decreasing energy use and costs.
Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors approved the reallocation of $250,000 in federal stimulus funds to expand the county’s existing server virtualization program. The Department of Information and Technology (DIT) used the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds to purchase five more virtual servers, which took the place of 94 physical servers.
The State Tech video features several DIT staff members explaining the benefits of server virtualization, including a reduction in energy costs to the county and a significant reduction of carbon emissions. As pictured above, Michael Avera of the Loudoun County Department of Information Technology was one of the staff members featured in the State Tech magazine video.
The video is available for viewing on the State Tech website,
