UPDATE: Sterling man arrested after struggle for gun in Great Falls Chase home

A Sterling man was charged after a shooting at a residence in the Great Falls Chase community near Lowes Island that happened early Saturday morning.

At approximately 5 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 20900 block of Chippoaks Forest Circle regarding an incident that ended with gunfire.

Several subjects were inside the home during the altercation – one of the subjects brandished a firearm, starting a struggle. The gun went off, striking one of the subjects. The victim is currently at the Lansdowne Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Benjamin A. Misanin, 22, of Sterling was charged later that day with trespassing, brandishing a firearm and discharging a firearm in a dwelling.

Because the occupants of the home refused to cooperate, the Sheriff’s Office activated the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team to secure the home and the weapon, and neighbors were alerted to stay in their homes.

Misanin remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

First, this is not Great Falls the town. This is Great Falls Chase the subdivision in Sterling, Va. It is near Lowe’s Island, but it is middle class at best, and trending towards becoming another deteriorating NoVa townhouse community, mainly because of an ineffective HOA and a handful of sketchy residents who openly commit crimes that include everything from speeding, to illegal/dangerous fireworks, to drug dealing. A Crime Watch has been formed, and there is even a police officer living in the once safe community, yet things continue to happen right out in the open without much notice. Despite being near the affluent Lowes Island, property values in GFC are lagging behind. There appears to also be an inordinate number of units that are rented and not kept up, something the HOA bylaws should prevent. But again, if the police won’t even enforce laws in this community, and unattached/unaware residents won’t report crimes and other violations, then GFC, despite its relatively decent location, will turn into another problematic subdivision (if it hasn’t already).
