The current sheriff (Simpson) has been in office for 16 years now, and while he did a great job when Loudoun was a small community, times have changed, and Loudoun has grown tremendously. With that growth comes new challenges to law enforcement. Loudoun needs a new sheriff with improved leadership and more current law enforcement experience with the Federal Agencies, available resources and new technology. We don't need someone who hasn't shown any initiative in the last 10 years in office, while our community continues to grow and face new challenges.
Having said that, we also don't want a sheriff who lives in a multi-million dollar mansion in potomac maryland (Speakman) as his primary residence, with only an investment property in Loudoun. Again, we don't need another part-time sheriff.
Both Speakman and Simpson are running as independent candidates, I guess neither party wants to back their nomination.
Loudoun's sheriff seems to be playing foot loose and fancy free with campaign donations.
