A dog missing from an Aldie rescue shelter since December has been found in Leesburg.
According to the Leesburg Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Catoctin Circle Thursday to meet with staff members from the Friends of Homeless Animals rescue shelter. Staff from the shelter had reported in December that Oahu, a Jack Russell terrier mix, was stolen from the Aldie facility.
Staff members had received a tip that the dog may be at the Catoctin Circle home. Leesburg Police officers contacted Loudoun County Animal Control officers so they could scan the dog for the microchip that was in the stolen dog.
Officers met with the residents of the home and the dog was found at the residence. Staff members from the shelter identified the dog and its microchip identified the dog as Oahu. Animal Control officers took the dog into custody immediately.
The suspect, who was not home at the time, faces felony charges for the theft of the dog.
