While a trial date has yet to be set, the case against Darwin Giovany Bowman, 20, of Annandale, Loudoun’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman has stated that the case is continuing to move forward.
Bowman is accused of capital murder for the March 22, 2009 death of William Bennett of Potomac Station and the brutal attack on his wife Cynthia Bennett. The early morning attack on the couple while out jogging sent a shock through the upscale Lansdowne community. Over 800 local residents attended a community meeting to address the attack and over 100 attended a March 29, 2009 pre-dawn walk and vigil.
Bowman’s case was initially intended for scheduling July 11, but the case will return for further motions Aug. 11. The delay was caused by “procedural and discovery” issues, according to Plowman.
Another accused Lansdowne attacker, Jaime Ayala, 19, of Sterling, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Feb. 9. He is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 22.
The Sheriff’s Office and Commonwealth’s Attorney have also stated that Anthony Roberts, 21, of Middleburg is a participant in the attack. While Roberts has not been charged with the Lansdowne attack, he is currently serving a prison sentence for a string of burglaries in Middleburg and Leesburg. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office declined to speculate as to when charges would be brought.
