Taxi Driver Assaulted; Two Charged

Two men face felony charges after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver in Sterling around 2 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, a 48-year-old taxi driver picked up several passengers in the Herndon area and took them to an address on Stanford Square in Sterling. There, two of the passengers go out of the cab and two men stayed inside and asked to be taken to another location. When the taxi driver declined, the men allegedly made a threatening statement and then grabbed and broke the driver's cell phone as he attempted to call for help. The men then allegedly assaulted the driver.
A witness to the altercation called the sheriff's office.
Thomas Edward Cash, 18, of New York, was charged with abduction, destruction of property, prevent someone from calling 911, assault by mob and underage possession of alcohol. James A. Delaney, 29, of Ireland, was charged with abduction, assault by mob and obstruction of justice.
Both were being held Monday without bond.
The taxi driver declined medical treatment.
