Grand jury indicts Middleburg newspaper editor

Mon., May. 16 | 03:56 PM - A Loudoun County Grand Jury on Monday indicted the editor/co-owner of the Middleburg Eccentric newspaper who is charged in connection with a series of alleged embezzlements.
A Loudoun County Grand Jury on Monday indicted the editor/co-owner of the Middleburg Eccentric newspaper who is charged with embezzlement in connection with a series of misdirected rent payments.
Deanne “Dee Dee” Hubbard, 67, of Middleburg, was indicted on 13 counts of embezzlement and one count of embezzlement under $200.
According to arrest warrants, police are accusing Hubbard with using her role as property manager for Jack Goehring III to deposit $9,192.50 worth of rent checks meant for Goehring into her own account.
The checks in question span from Dec. 17, 2007, to Dec. 24, 2009, and range in amounts from $412.50 to $1,500.
Hubbard’s attorney Edward McMahon has proclaimed his client’s innocence several times since her Nov. 3, 2010, arrest.
McMahon said the misdirected checks were a mistake and an error on the part of Middleburg Bank rather than an attempt at embezzlement on the part of Hubbard.
McMahon appeared before Judge Thomas D. Horne May 17 for scheduling. A three-day jury trial is scheduled to begin November 7.
