Has anyone else noticed that smell at rt50 and 606? I come through there early in the morning and it smells like a toilet.

On the north side of Rt 50 near there is a big portable toilet company. Hundreds and hundreds of plastic bathrooms and all the associated mess is bound to smell.

I'll throw in a pretty good bet at what you're smelling.

1) There's a landfill on the Dulles Airport property just around the lower left corner - right near where that bigass quarry/mine is on the same property. THAT thing smells horrible and, given the right wind coming in down over the mountains, it can blow that stench as far east/northeast as Herndon, Dulles Town Center, etc.

2) This is seasonal: Around late February through late April, Dulles airport itself will stench of de-icer. The deicer fluid is usually made up of some variety of glycol and it stinks to high heaven. Even though they do a pretty good job of cleaning up the mess after the snow melts, some of that stuff occasionally gets left in vats and, if the vats are left open, it smells HORRIBLE and can fill up the area around Dulles with a really disgusting B.O. smelling funk.

There're nurseries on either side of 606 at 50 - lots of much/fertilizer.
