freedom High School Gangs?

My neighbor told me there were gangs at Freedom High School. I said "you've got to be joking." She is insisting. Other than the "math club" and"model UN" are there real gangs at Freedom in South Riding?

My kids are out of high school now. When they were there at Freedom, I'd say there were some dangerous kids, but not Crips and Bloods types. Some of the kids who are really hooked up to dealers may be two or three tiers below that, though. More likely there are a good chunk of spoiled bored kids who think "thug life" is cool, and act out.

It's like this at every school in Loudoun County that you think doesn't have this kind of environment. Sorry to burst people's bubble...but Woodgrove, Tusky, Broad Run, Stonebridge, etc., etc. have this exact same environment. Some are worse...Heritage, Park View...but it's everywhere.

I will bet you neighbor is a woman with a daughter getting ready to go to Freedom.
I see it all the time in South Riding.

Mom is worried about her little snowflake being in the same school as gangs, drug dealers and addicts, section eight kids, and kids in rehab. I will bet your neighbor plans on her snowflake going to UVA (because Mon settled for Tech, or, God forbid, Mason) , and Mom is concerned about the influences in high school derailing that plan for her precious Snowflake.

Tell Mom this; don't be worried about gangs and drug dealers at Freedom. You should really concern yourself with the influence other female snowflakes at Freedom will have on your daughter. Many girls are vicious to each other, many girls dress as sluts and strut themselves in front of others, and many girls use social media for peer assassination against other girls. I won’t even elaborate on the sex issue, only to say, many girls seek outside friendship from guys in their 20’s and not their classmates.

As a parent, I can tell you not to worry about the boys at Freedom. Yes, they can be knuckleheads at times, but they are just knuckleheaded boys, no different than 50 years ago. Worry about the criticism your daughter is going to get from other sweethearts for not wearing thongs, yoga pants (they gave up on enforcing the yoga pants rule years ago), or not putting out. Gangs at Freedom is a joke. What isn’t a joke is the way girls are allowed to push the limits, and how their parents are clueless, or either unwilling to do anything, or have no control or positive influence over these budding monsters.

Worry about your daughter joining up and becoming a monster, or becoming a victim of a monster. Put the "gang" issue to rest.

Yes, it was a mother of an eighth grade girl and a fifth grade girl.

Too funny.

I will ask her next time I see her if she went to Tech or Mason.

Thanks, you have been a big help.

"DMV" is not a gang, it's a regional reference: "DC/MD/VA area".

They even use it on the local evening news: "Looks like we'll be getting some snow in the DMV area..."

Again, bored kids.

I believe it was John Champe HS that just had the big drug bust.

Hahahaha Champe! They did recently have a drug bust but from what I heard it was weed and minor weapons like knives (in their cars). If anyone's worried about Champe having "gangs" they're the most paranoid person I know. However, I wouldn't put it past schools like Park View considering the surrounding area.

Haven't been to freedom in awhile though but I've heard it's gone to shit. But I doubt there's any serious gang presence/threat.

Some Senior tried to sell my Freshman son LSD earlier this year at Freedom. But the LSD he was selling was a pill that looked like a laxative.

I am siding that one as a prank an not a real drug deal.

She's just a drama queen trying to add some excitement to her dull, housewife life by inventing nonsense about how bad the kids are. She needs a creative outlet she doesn't get from her overworked, alcoholic husband who brings home a good paycheck but not any fun every week.

Tell this yenta to go join a book club or pick up a triathlon training to get her fat fat greasy butt off the sweat soaked couch and do something besides invent problems for her kids.

Freedom HS Class of 2016--15 or so going to UVa, 50 (yes 50) to VTech, 20 to JMU; others got into U Chicago, W&M, Northwestern, USC, Ga Tech, NYU, Florida, Colombia etc.

Huge, record setting scholarship & merit aid # this year.

Strongest class by far in the school's short history.

Gang problem = gangs of AP study groups.

fewer than 10 went to UVA, but still a great class. At
Graduation, the joke was "Freedom 2016 is now VT
class of 2020."
