An 18-year-old man was charged with DUI (under 21) after instigating a serious crash Tuesday morning on Loudoun County Parkway.
At 7:15 a.m., Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the wesbound exit of Loudoun County Parkway at Route 7 for reports of a two-vehicle collision.
A 2010 Hyundai, driven by Jacob G. Mazaris, 18, of Leesburg, was traveling westbound on Route 7 when he exited onto the ramp at Loudoun County Parkway.
Mazaris traveled across the northbound lanes of traffic and into the southbound lane, where he struck a 2009 Toyato Corolla driven by a 47-year-old Ashburn woman.
Both Mazaris and the Toyota driver were airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where they are both being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
Mazaris was charged with DUI (under 21) after the investigation.
Mazaris has already had a run-in with the law, including a misdemeanor arrest on July 18 for driving after the illegal consumption of alcohol. He was also charged with marijuana possession and failure to obey a stop sign.
According to court records found online, that case resulted in a 12-month suspension of his license and a $300 fine.
Public Information Officer Kraig Troxell of the Sheriff’s Office wasn’t immediately aware of the previous charges when questioned by the Times-Mirror, but was following up with investigators.
He said more charges may be pending.
