Investigators are continuing to look into what caused the death of a 1-year-old at an in-home child care service in Sterling last month, but at this point there is no suspicion of foul play, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to the home daycare on Baggett Terrace around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, for report of a 1-year-old girl who was not breathing. Deputies began immediate CPR, followed by emergency medical personnel when they arrived and the infant was transferred to Inova Loudoun Hospital. After receiving treatment there, she was pronounced dead.
The in-home daycare was not licensed, but sheriff's office spokesperson Kraig Troxell said because of the low number of children cared for there, it did not require licensing. Troxell said no violations were found at the daycare, nothing suspicious was found, and a standard death investigation has commenced.
"They are waiting on results for the medical examiner's office, with her medical history and other information," Troxell said. "While there is no evidence of foul play, we are working the case with Child Protective Services."
At this point, investigators believe the death is medically caused, but are awaiting final results of the investigation before making an official ruling.
