Retired Army Special Forces officer Neal Zimmerman will be leading hundreds of motorcycle riders on a 130-mile ride through four states, 19 counties and three national battlefields during the 8th Annual Battlefield Run on Sept. 17 to raise awareness and funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

The 8th Annual Battlefield Run benefits the families of fallen and wounded military special operations soldiers, from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines including Army Rangers and Navy SEALs.

Participants will start their journey in Leesburg and will cross historic sites in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland before reaching the hallowed ground of Gettysburg, Pa.

There is a $30 registration fee and riders receive a commemorative t-shirt and a raffle ticket. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Best Buy at Potomac Station in Leesburg. There will also be commemorative patches, pins, shirts, coins and hats available for sale with the proceeds benefiting the foundation. The ride begins at 11 a.m.

Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstatted will see the riders off and Gettysburg Mayor William E. Troxell will greet the riders upon their arrival at the Battlefield Harley-Davidson in Gettysburg, Pa. Hardcore Choppers and Loudoun Motorsports will be on site to show participants the latest in motorcycle work and technology.

To support the event people can come to the Best Buy in Leesburg for the kickoff and breakfast for a small donation or meet at the finish for the luncheon for $10 at the Gettysburg Battlefield Harley-Davidson dealership.

Commemorative tee-shirts are available for pre-order for $20 at battlefieldrun.com.

The Eighth Annual Battlefield Run will be held

Welcome to the Eighth Annual Battlefield Run! Over the past seven years the Battlefield Run as raised thousands of dollars with over 150 riders and 250 participants from across the US and Canada. Yes, we have a dedicated group of Canadians that make the trip to Virginia to ride with us annually. This year the SOF community has had some great successes and very tragic losses. Most recently, the loss of 22 SEALS and 8 US crew members. With that great loss comes the additional burden of 42 children left fatherless. SOWF has committed to reach out to ALL of the US families from that incident. With 144 children in school, another 600 in the pipeline and now another 42 from this incident, the need is greater than ever. Months ago I said my goal was to raise $25,000. I am pleased to announce we are well on the way with sponsors assisting in boosting our start! Please join us this year and wind your way through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania visiting sacred sites while helping us meet the goal. As always, there will be good food, good music, great raffle prizes and a few surprises for you as well. I look forward to seeing you on September 17th. ~Zman~

The funds raised for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) will provide college scholarship grants, based on need, along with financial aid and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel that have been killed in operational missions or training accidents.
