To reduce the herd of deer, Loudoun County will have two, three-day managed hunts for antlerless deer at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in Leesburg.
The first will be an archery-only hunt Oct. 24, 27 and 31. Hunters must register for the lottery by Sept. 29. For online registration, go to www.loudoun.gov/webtrac, using activity number 167501-01.
On-site registration is available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Parks, Recreation and Community Services administrative office, 215 Depot Ct. SE, Leesburg.
The lottery fee is $10 for Loudoun residents and $15 for non-residents. There is an additional $1 fee for on-site registration.
The lottery will randomly select 33 hunters and 15 alternates; those chosen will be notified Sept. 30. Hunters must have a Virginia hunting license, pass a qualifier at local ranges, attend a weekday orientation at Banshee Reeks and pay $25 at the orientation for a Loudoun County hunting permit. They can participate in up to three weekday hunts.
Lottery registration for the December hunt will be next month.
