The drivers of a 2007 Ford Mustang GT and a Dodge Challenger SRT-8 struck each other while authorities said they were racing on Russell Branch Parkway at 12:25 a.m. July 31.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Harrison Jr., 23, who was driving the Ford, lost control of his vehicle and crashed through the safety fence at the dead end of the road — proceeding off road to where it struck a ditch and rolled several times.
Harrison was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital for serious injuries. He was later charged with a driving under the influence.
A 22-year-old passenger, of Ashburn, was transported to the Lansdowne campus of Inova for minor injuries.
The driver of the Dodge, Julian Brooks, 25, was not injured in the crash, but was charged with reckless driving, according to authorities.
The Dodge also had a 23-year-old passenger who was not injured.
