Loudoun County Fire and Rescue was at full force the night of July 31, battling two unrelated two-alarm fires within one minute of each other and another just hours later.

At 7:06 p.m., the emergency communications center received 911 calls reporting thick smoke from the shopping center at 46000 Old Ox Rd.

Arriving units confirmed a working fire and sounded a second alarm.

No citizens were reported injured from the incident, although one firefighter was transported from the scene to be checked out.

Meanwhile, a second incident was reported at 7:06 p.m., as callers said there was a house on fire in the 40000 block of Codgrass Circle in Arcola.

Units discovered the single-family home had significant fire showing and exposure threats on both sides of the house.

The fire department initiated a second alarm as crews avanced hose lines to contain the fire.

Fire crews were forced to perform an aggressive exterior attack due to the potential of a collapse, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Laura Rinehart.

The blaze was within control in an hour, but the house was a total loss. The four displaced residents, two adults and two children, are staying with family members.

One civilian on the scene suffered a leg injury and one firefighter suffered a heat-related illness. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Additional details as to the cause of the fire are still under investigation.

Fire crews were back in action a few hours later, as they responded to a flaming townhouse in the 23000 block of Spicebush Terrace at about 5:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

Firefighters were still working to put out the blaze at 7 a.m. and called for a second alarm.

It is unclear at this time whether anyone was home at the time flames erupted from the building, but so far no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a developing story.
