Update: Arrest Made In Leesburg Vehicle Tampering

An arrest has already been made in the rash of vehicle tamperings that occured during the early morning hours Thursday, Leesburg Police announced this morning.
Yonathan Melaku, 22, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with four counts of grand larceny for allegedgely damaging more than two dozen cars early yesterday morning. At approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday, a resident called to report the sound of car windows being smashed. Officers arrived on Glade Fern Terrace, near the intersection of Battlefield Parkway and Sycolin Road, where they found 27 damaged vehicles, with items reported to have been taken.
Police received a tip that led to Melaku's identification, according to Lt. Jeff Dube. Melaku was taken before a magistrate and ordered to the county's Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 secure bond. He posted bond and was released overnight.

The Leesburg Police Department recommends that residents not only lock their cars, but also remove or hide items of value. Laptop computers, MP3 players, GPS devices, purses and cell phones are regularly targeted by thieves.
