Update 11:57 a.m.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman confirmed that one victim has succumbed to injuries.

“That is my understanding,” Troxell said, but noted he didn’t have further information at the time.

Update 9:26 a.m.

The suspect is Michael D. Brown, 40, of Washington, D.C.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said warrants have been obtained for reckless driving, felony speeding to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license. He has not yet been charged.

Brown was already wanted in Arlington County on a probation violation surrounding charges of grand larceny.

Brown remains hospitalized at Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Original Story:

Six are in the hospital after an early-morning police chase of a wanted subject in a stolen vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2:45 a.m. this morning, a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding westbound on Route 9 near Hillsboro.

The deputy, traveling eastbound at the time, activated his emergency equipment, according to the Sheriff’s Office. As a result, the suspect vehicle accelerated and the deputy began pursuit. Due to the circumstances regarding the direction of travel and the pursuit’s proximity to the West Virginia border, Loudoun County dispatchers notified the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office.

The Loudoun County deputy terminated the pursuit as the suspect crossed into West Virginia, but continued to follow the suspect at highway speed and deactivated his emergency equipment, according to Troxell.

He lost sight of the vehicle, but discovered a mile later that the vehicle was involved in a three-vehicle crash, currently being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, driving a stolen vehicle, was wanted in Arlington County on a property crime charge. He was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Three other patients were airlifted from the scene, and two additional people were transported to a local hospital.

Charges are currently pending for the suspect.

Six people were injured in an early morning crash on Rt. 9 west of the Loudoun border today after a county deputy's attempted to pull over a speeding car resulted in a chase on the two-lane road.

According to the sheriff's office, the incident started around 2:45 a.m. when an eastbound deputy on patrol initiated a traffic stop on a speeding westbound vehicle near Hillsboro. As the deputy turned on his emergency equipment and changed direction, the vehicle accelerated. The deputy pursued the car to the West Virginia line. While the pursuit terminated there, the deputy continued west on Rt. 9. About a mile west of the border, the suspect vehicle was found in a three-vehicle crash.

The suspect and three other patients were flown by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Two others were transported to another hospital by ambulance.

During the investigation, deputies identified the fleeing suspect as Michael D. Brown, 40, of Washington, DC, and determined that he was wanted in Arlington County for a probation violation surrounding property crime charges and that he was driving a stolen car.

Loudoun deputies charged him with felony speeding to elude, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license

The crash is being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
