Haha, I own...but in Fairfax City. I was just saying Lorton prices were cheap to begin with when you compare then to the rest of Fairfax, so going up 300% ain't that difficult.

Actually Lorton prices are pretty pricey,I think youre referring to old lorton, which really isnt Lorton Station. I bought brand new at $420 for a townhome/condo in Lorton Station, and its already gone up to $500K within 6 months, so asnpcwiz, you really dont know what youre talking about.

Well at least you'll pay more in taxes, and hey, if you sell, you'll buy a new hom ein the area for more than what you sold yours.

My only questions is: with home values 500-600k and more, how can all those government workers afford it?

I don't think the owners are in tough w/reality. Home values are useless, what really matters is what people will pay! Lorton values have gone DOWN, just like the rest of Fairfax, PW, and Stafford counties. Lorton has held on to more of its value than the southern provinces though, but they still went down from the peak in 05/06. I rent a townhome in Lorton that the buyer paid $735K. My street has 11 Townhomes for sale, and the most expensive one is asking 649K, and it hasn't moved in many months. Most are going for High 500's. These homes were all 575K and above when bought in 05/06. They're all losing. I'm waiting another 6 months, when the market falls another 5-10%. Dream on owners!

I also live in Lorton and have to disagree with the above statement. It does smell terrible, especially in that parking lot by bloom. When it's hot the smell is even worse.

So this is a really old post. My house was bought in Lorton by my grandfather for $12k and it's now worth half a million. Only problem is, I'm close to work and I like the school system. If I sold it I couldn't afford to live in Fairfax county. I wish the house value was closer to $12k because the taxes on this place alone are more then my mortgage was in Oklahoma.
