Places to eat in or near Burke
Posted by: MMAMEA ()

My family eats out frequently and we are getting pretty tired of the usual jaunts in the area. We've hit the following places:

Villa Bella
Spartans
Aladdins
Outback
Jerry's
BBQ World
Burke Garden
Friendly's
Mangino's
Boston Market
Glory Days
Burke Fortune House

What are we missing, besides some good places to eat in or near Burke?

Why does your family eat out so frequently at all of Burke's gag-worthy options? Is the woman in your family a "career type," who can't be bothered to prepare a home cooked meal?

I'd take Hunan East over Hunan West. I love their General Tso's Shrimp.

Friendly's is the worst restaurant ever.
Fortune House is awesome.
The Egyptian place has great food but it takes them forever to make it.

Ho's Dynasty is pretty damn good too. Best standard-southern-style Chinese around!

I concur, Rafaginos is a fantastic option, it rivals some of the best restaurants in DC. Check it out.

If the ants were alive that is a good thing, if dead then you should worry

I like how a ignant suggests that if you live in burke you should drive to dc, just to eat with your family. That's some funny stuff.

Szechuan East for Chinese food. Rafagino's for Italian food. El Pueblo for Mexican food.

Regarding Burke restaurants and the quality of the cuisine.

PUKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

PASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

And that concludes our message.

P.S.

there is no good place to eat in Burke unless you're grilling and chilling in your own backyard.

Duk Wo has pretty good sushi. Some of their special rolls are outstanding, like Yumi Yumi, Geisha, or King of the Crown. Only problem with this place is their location. Buffa's Dance Studio is on either side and the parents take up all the parking in the strip center dropping off or waiting for their kids from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.

Ho's Dynasty was great until it shut down, my family found Chinatown which is over by Aladin's is pretty good(as close to Ho's Dynasty as we could find). Don't eat at Jerry's my brother and I recently got food poisoning from them, we don't know what it was because it was because we had completly different stuff. Cafe Rio, in my opinion, is just a more expensive Chipotle, unless you have young children(I believe it's under 6 that gets free quesadilla) or you want nachos. The Dairy Queen by Walmart doesn't have normal food(things other then ice cream) but the one in the shopping center by the belt way does. There is of course Wendy's, McDonald's, Chipotle, Subway, and Starbucks(they do have pretty good sandwiches if you're already there and need to grab something quick). If you're not at starbucks and you want something quick to grab Safeway actually has a good selection of salads and sandwiches right by the door(Burke Center location, the left entrance). For pizza depending on what you want there is Pasanio's, Pizza Hut(only one I know of is on Braddock), Domino's, Papa Johns, and Vocelli's. If you really want a burger, and I mean a good one, you're better off going to Red Robin in Fair Lakes. Green Turtle is also really good they are on Main Street off of rt. 123, there is free parking in the garge you can get from rt. 123 or University Dr. A good place for soft serve ice cream is Woody's it used to be seasonal over by where Carlos o' Kelly was but moved to a location near Main street and I believe is now year-round, if you go to Green Turtle you can just walk. Friendly's does have desent food if you are in the mood for something off their menu, though I suggest carry out(which they do they just don't tell you they do), I personaly like their honey bbq chicken supermelt, though their fries aren't that great, and their ice cream is good if you're already there. If you just want the ice cream and none of the additional toppings you can pick up some of their flavors at the grocery store. Another good place is Tong Thai, they are behind Brion's grille at University Mall(their's is the only pad thai I like). There is also the Japanese steak house at University Mall(where the block buster used to be), the name is always changing but it's the same thing with I believe the same employees. Some people like La Tolteca which is good they have decently authentic mexican food, still not real in my opinion but pretty close. There is an Olive Garden in Fair Lakes but it is pretty much always busy don't try to go with a big group because it will probably be a 30 minute or so wait and the waiting area is always crowded, except for the few times the place is dead. Outback is good but yet again large groups are difficult(went with 20+ people a month ago was preplanned and a couple of us arrived a few minutes before the time we had set and it still toke an hour to be seated, it was for a special event kind of thing and we decided to go out with the whole family instead of doing something at home like we normally do). Over by where I said Green Turtle is there is also a potbelly and panera, closer then the Fair Oaks area. There is also Coastal Flats, California Pizza Kitchen, ben and jerry's, P.F. Cheng's, and Uncle Julio's Rio Grande cafe over at Fairfax Corner, there is also a movie theater there. Fairfax Corner also has pinkberry for frozen yougurt, there also a few clothing stores there and a hair salon and by the hair salon(Bubbles) there is a cupcake place. Now you are awesome if you have read this far.

What happened to BBQ world! I miss that place a lot. They had the best BBQ in Virginia and it was much better than that crap at Mission BBQ.
