ok so I've been living in Burke for a long time and I'm interested in writing a book. I wanna hear any weird stories any of you might have to research. Anything paranormal, anything disturbing, just no bunny man stories.. It's been told.

Maybe focus on Lake Accotink's history. It was a reservoir for DC during the World Wars. Damned up during WWI. Blew up the damn after it ended. Redeemed for WWII and left that way. It has those fences around it because it was patrolled by armed guards to keep people from messing with the water supply. I met an old guy who used to swim there anyway. Not a super crazy story but maybe a good backdrop for one.

The house that burned down on Burke Lake Road that turned into the Conservatory. My friend was approached and offered money to help make the house burn down. He refused. Rumor was Burke wanted that land, the man who owned the house and land didn't want to sell. They knew he has no fire insurance, so once the house burned down the guy wasn't able to recover (no insurance) and had to sell.

I think it was called Lynch Farm (where the Conservancy is now).

I can tell you with 100% certainty that rumor is false. That house burned down long after Burke Centre was established...it was owned by the conservancy at the time.

As a second side note, it was on Burke Centre Parkway closer to Roberts Pkwy and not Burke Lake Rd, I have a feeling it was an issue with permits for the remodeling, The inside was awesome, not much drywall but all tongue and Groove wood. The Miller House at BCP and BLR was sold and developed, prior to that it was a Junk Yard of sorts. There is not much Paranormal activity in Burke that I am aware of. Just strange stuff, LBSS was one of the first schools with Gun Incidents, Bungee Jumping kids off train bridges, Haunted Burke Lake Park by Indian curses. There is much rich history still left in Burke. I have been fortunate to have been in most of the most recognizable spots in Burke, Silas Burke House, Lynch Farm, Woods CC, Many of the Civil War Houses in Old Burke.
