RTC Parking Garage
Posted by: PackerFan ()
Date: September 25, 2005 07:28PM

Hey, I was parked at the RTC parking garage near the entrance by La Madeline last night at 11:30. I was chilling in my car. Security officers came and told me that it was private property. They told me not to come back to RTC for one year.

1: Does it matter what I was doing in the car?
2: Is it actually private property?
3: How much can those security guards actually do?

Haha. I know they're security guards, but it gets a whole lot wores when they take plates and driver's license.

I just want to know, for future reference, what's up with parking garages.

Why did you give them your driver's license?

They were wearing a uniform, I didn't keep my head.

It's free, anyone can go in. That would lead me to believe that it's public. I wasn't reading all the signs at the time.

Back in '99, my friends and I were driving around looking for shit to do - it was late January and fucking cold outside and we were bored. We drove up to the top of the RTC garage and found a white Volkswagon Rabbit with the windows all steamed up. I had an SUV with the yuppie-prick light package and my friend had a Saturn, so we decided it'd be a great service if we lit up this couple's night.

We turned on our brights in synch and saw every last detail of the dude and his girlfriend as they scrambled to put their clothes on. Hooray for dumb fuckers and perfect opportunities! Happy Valentine's day!

never give your ID to someone who is not a cop. Its not illegal to be parked in a parking lot. if they want to call the police thats fine you may show the cops your ID. But Paul Blart the mall cop and his buddies dont have the right to detain you arrest you or even ask for your ID. as for being ban for a year they did that in high school to me and they wont be able to recognize you from any other jane or john walking the streets. just a bunch of idiots trying to flex powers they haven't got to begin with.

Yes, the parking lot is private property. It is owned by the management property who employs "mall cops". However, unless you were doing something illegal they can't technically ban you from the shopping center. Asses

The parking garages are NOT public property. The entire Reston Town Center is private property, so the security guards are enpowered to enforce any rules the RTC management wish to have enforced (within the constitutionality of the law of course!). Recently, the management had a meeting with all of the general managers from the restaurant units in the town center. It was held to discuss the issue of people and their demeanor after consumming alcohol in the town center bars. As a result of the meeting, the Fairfax County police agreed to adjust their shifts by one hour, so that they maintain a presence until 2:30A, rather than 1:30A. Bar owners/operators have been instructed by town center management, county police, and the liquor board to rid the bars of patrons by 2AM (no lingering/loitering after that time whatsoever). This of course throws those patrons into the wolves' den, as there are often is police cruisers posted up outside. The security guards are feeling the pressure from town center management, etc. to run those individuals who do not work or live in the town center off of the property by a certain time. I can tell you, that if you do drink in the town center, please do not drive!!! As long as you are parked in a garage marked "free parking", your car will not be towed. So take a safe drive home. Trust me, you will get caught otherwise.
