Warning. Two males, looked like teenagers, white, both 5'7" or taller, wearing dark (navy blue?) hoodies are setting fires in the woods just off FFX County PKWY, north of Cameron pond, near the natural gas lines fenced in control area.
They set large fires Thursday night and Friday night in a fire ring that is part of an abandoned vagrant's campsite. Each night FFX County Police and Fire responded. The kids fled - and were not apprehended. They left the woods travelling north towards Fairfax County Parkway and Walnut Branch Road. They used a rug to try to put out the fire but it takes more than that to fully put a large fire out. The Fire department put the still smoking fire out fully with their fire extinguisher.
These woods are Smith Property Group’s land. I have contacted Reston Association and
restonlanding@avalonbay.com to let them know of these problems. I have asked
restonlanding@avalonbay.com to clean up the old vagrant's campsite area and put up signs. I have not gotten a response.
So FYI - there are kids in N. Reston/Herdon who like to have fires in the woods at night. Open burning is against the law - I checked with the fire department when they responded. The fire danger in this area and at this time is high. Setting fires in the woods even in a stone fire ring is dangerous especially when the fire is near natural gas lines! Be cautious, be aware, and know that laws against open burning are for everyone's protection. Thanks.
