Topic: : Exxon Merrifield VA Campus Future Development

Conversation: Located adjacent to INOVA Fairfax Hospital was put up for sale on April 11, 2013. If this property is sold to large scale developer that destroys the 93 Acres of woods, one of the last remaining in Fairfax County, then traffic congestion can only increase in a negative way, far more than any of us want.
But "purposeful" planning that preserves the "Woods" for posterity with a "Healing Garden" for those who are recovering from surgery at INOVA and other medical facilities in nearby communities such as Vienna, and Fairfax City, can benefit us all and is proposed by a Citizen’s Committee working with county ++.
The buildings can possibly be redeployed for graduate education in science and technology with support for technology development anchored with 2 leading research universities. A Recent “success model” in Southwestern Virginia exist with collaboration of Virginia Tech and Wake Forest Med School cross border focusing on graduate education with medical technology development .

I am attaching a 2 page PDF that can be reviewed on line here on downloaded to a desktop for further consideration and thoughful discussion from residents of Merrifield, Vienna. Fairfax City and nearby civic associations and business community.

What happens to Exxon Merrifield VA Campus, affects not only our generation but also our kids and beyond.

Here i the "Patron" we need to enable Exxon Merrifield VA Campus Future:

The ExxonMobil Foundation is the primary philanthropic arm of the Exxon Mobil Corporation in the United States.

Founded in 1955 as Esso Education Foundation, the Foundation’s name was changed to ExxonMobil Foundation in 2000 following the merger of Exxon Corporation and Mobil Corporation. The Foundation has a strategically focused vision supporting math and science education, economic opportunities for women and malaria prevention. Suzanne McCarron has served as President of the Foundation since May 2010.

http://corporate.exxonmobil.com/en/community/worldwide-giving/exxonmobil-foundation/overview

Conversation: Anyone has a suggestion or contact who can help us approach Exxon Mobil Foundation to provide some help to our Fairfax County Northern Virginia community ?

I have read carefully the mission of the Exxon Mobil Foundation and their top priorities in education and strenthening job opportunities for woomen, and last but not least, Malaria !

If we can have a conversation with this foundation at a high level, Exxon Merrifiled Campus can make a significant contribution to the goals of the Foundaiton while bringing value to our community, working with such nearby university such as GMU in Fairfax and VCU at Richmond.

Lastly, I have completed their "contact form" and also left phone message with a request. But so far no answer to a "Community Activist" request of Avi Dey, made a month ago.

Who can we approach in the Federal Government Leadership and/or the State of Virginia Leadership to help with this task ?

The land is greatly needed not just for "education" in the abstract but for actual school facilities. Luther Jackson Middle School is awful. Falls Church High School is not much better. Population is booming thanks to Edens and Avant's Mosaic District.

New middle and high school campuses make way too much sense though. I give it a 1 in 10 shot.

The land is greatly needed not just for "education" in the abstract but for actual school facilities.

Conversation: This land is too precicious to turn it over just for another middle school or high school.

What is needed is to bring education and knowledge based economic development such as a "Innovation Center Project" working with Exxon Mobile Foundation if possible.

Exxon Mobile Foundation has both international and national goals that can be accomodate in a non-profit consortium for systematic technology innovation that creates new opportunities for physical science and life sciences, the two key focus to the knowledge economy of Fairfax County quality life style in everyday living.

Innovation Center "success models' exist in such high tech community with strong research universities as in Sillicon Valley and Boston.

GMU, VCU, GWU, AU are examples of universities in our NOVA DC Hub who can aspire to the quality of a MIT, Standford , Cal Tech in the next decade.

We can overcome the heavy burden of Civil War finally in Virginia , no doubt.

Hello Exxon Mobile Foundation ! (who is appropriate to approach them for a conversation on this topic ?)

Bandicoot Rat or Larger/Greater Bandicoot Rat
(Bandicota indica)

Appearance:
Adult : Dark, greyish-brown, 30-40cms with an equally long tail. Similar to Mole-Rat, but much larger, weighing as much as 1.4kg!

Life Cycle
Female has between 8-10 litters. Young (8-14 per litter) are born blind and naked. Young reach sexual maturity around 50-60 days after birth. Life span of adults is around a year.

Notes
Large, aggressive animals that erect their guard hairs on their backs and emit grunts when disturbed.

If caged with other bandicoots, it is likely to fight to death within a few hours.

Usually occupies the outskirts of human dwellings such as compounds and gardens and is commonly found near garbage bins.

Its burrowing habits cause great damage to grounds and flooring as it can also tunnel through brick and masonry.

The characteristic large burrow gives away its presence. A totally non-fussy eater, it is equally comfortable feeding on household refuse, grain and vegetables and is a very serious pest in poultry farms.

Like its smaller cousin, it is also a carrier for many diseases.

It also has the potential to significantly affect our tax rolls. The Exxon-Mobil property is extremely valuable. If it is converted to certain nonprofit or governmental uses it will generate no real estate taxes while it will consume a great deal of public resources.

FBI won't touch it. Our "venerable" representative Gerry Connelly (yes I mean that sarcastically) is pushing the GSA site at the 95/395 interchange. Also, federal lay bans FBI from considering this site. The law requires a metro station within 1 mile of the site. Dunn Loring metro is too far. The law does not allow for the establishment of a dedicated shuttle either. Congressman Connelly coundn't care less about this site and he refuses to propose an ammendment to the law to allow for this site to be considered.

Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them.

We have entirely too many trees on the Exxon site. It is being under-utilized. I think a better recommendation would be to turn it into a homeless shelter and section 8 housing. We could probably warehouse most of the Fairfax Co homeless there and also make a new immigration welcome center. We could have ESL classes and voter registration there.

The genomic center will likely keep some of the trees. Yorktown will become as famous as Merrifield. Buy land in Holmes Run Acres now!

Turn it into a Fema camp for use by all the homeless ones living in the woods in Fairfax County.
