Leaving aside the ethical aspect of expressing support for clergy who have engaged in shunning, Bishop Shannon Johnston falsely states that these issues were investigated and resolved long ago. But they were neither resolved (that should be obvious), nor investigated, as my complaint was dismissed prior to investigation.
Meanwhile, Bishop Shannon talked out both sides of his mouth on this one. He apologized to me for mishandling my complaint and acknowledged that this had happened, but in this telling of events he took care of everything long ago.
So which is it?
Combined with the recent allegations to emerge that the bishop may have covered up a case of sexual harassment of a female church employee, this really shows what a hot mess the diocese really is. If nothing else, when a victim of abuse comes forward, they are entitled to be treated with dignity, care, and respect. Instead, Bishop Shannon appears to have tried to resolve the matter in secret, with absolutely no effort made to care for the victim.
Sounds familiar.
