For those who live in Alexandria, VA, one of the oldest towns in America, what are the three most important topics to strengthen quality of life at Alexandria ?


Here is my list:

(01) Create More High Paying Jobs for science and arts skilled people
(part time enjoyable jobs for retired & others not interested in full time jobs)

( Train Tech Innovators ? )

(02) Strengthen Green Space and Parks for healthy urban living

(03) Affordable Paratransit Alternatives to driving automobiles for seniors, handicapped and others who rather not drive auto but want convenient and affodable partatransit to everyday life style placess such as pubs and cafes with live music and healthy food, quality neighborhood shopping malls, and easy acess to Metro .

(04) Any others ?

1. West End - Alexandria needs to stop building high density developments. From now on, future residential building permits should be for single family homes only. Tear down the monstrosities in the west end, all of those old apartment buildings, and build new single family developments. Make this a family community, not another Crystal City or Roslyn. Turn the Landmark Mall area into shopping and dining with office space above to bring jobs in. To that point...

2. Encourage businesses to open here. We need good, full time jobs so people don't have to commute into DC or Fairfax.

3. Encourage non-residents to use public transportation so the roads are open to the people who actually live here.

Conversation: This is a great topic for discussion and I know something about this topic.

"Creating Jobs' is logically done by strengthening small tech biz in the community as has been widely studied by many leading unviersity goups such as MIT and Stanford University.

In fact, a rcent MIT study found that 80% of the new jobs are created by small busines, particulary, small tech biz.

Question: Can we get Fairfax County and Alexandria tech biz community to work together with support from the respective elected leaders and thoughtful citizens ?
