Red Light Ticket

I got a red light ticket. I'm sure it was my mother in law who was driving my car at the time, but I'm curious -- since Falls Church doesn't send the ticket as registered mail, they can't prove I ever got the ticket notification, and thus, they can't give me points without notification...

If I just ignore it, they can't do anything, I'm guessing. Anyone else know? Is Falls Church on the brink of discontinuing the red light thing anyway? I heard they make like 5 cents per ticket...

FYI - if you dont pay it they will suspend your license. If you wernt the driver there is info on the back of the tickett that tells you how to notify the court that you are not the driver, they will then dismiss the charges. Hope that helps.

Actually, the original poster is correct. Under the law, merely mailing you the citation isn't enough. Ignore it and make them spend the time/money to serve it to you in person.

The virginia code cited at the link seems pretty clear. Nevertheless I am not a lawyer so dont get locked up based on anonymous internet advise.
