Death in Kingstowne . . . Details?

Did anyone else observe police responding to an incident at Safeway, in Kingstowne, Virginia?
My wife and I observed about 10 marked and unmarked units in front of the store at about 7 p.m. on our way to a church event. At its conclusion we drove by the store, now marked off with police tape. Officers were still on scene at that point. And, laying in the roadway just in front of the store what appeared to be a body in a body bag.
I spoke with bystanders who said they thought there was a shooting, I don't know. No release on the FCPD webpage.

I've been by that store hundreds of times. Hard to believe there would be a shooting in that shopping center. Seems like a decent neighborhood.

Yea they had one in Arlington County few nights ago, right across from the county court house. A fucker jumped from one of 'em high rises all butt-naked and splashed his brain matter all over the place. Suicides are increasing in this area, must be the high gas prices.

Im glad you posted... I have been curious about what happended last night in the Kingstowne Shopping center as well. I was there about 7:30pm and saw all the people watching as the police did CPR on a man. I asked around and what I have heard was that there was an attempted kidnapping at the store. Police were notified and as a result shot the suspect. Apparently he died later. The lifestar helicopter was on the scene as well. As were tons of police, ambulences, and firetrucks.
I was surprised that the Safeway was still open. No one was in the store at all. I asked the manager what happened and he said he didn't know. I am surprised that the story wasn't on the news as I saw lots of camera men on the scene. If anyone has any more info on the crime that took place in the Kingstowne Shopping Center...please share. Us, members of the community, should be aware of whats going on.

it's weird. I always see people posting about murders and other serious crimes in fairfax, and it's not like they are even kidding. Yet I never see any of this shit receive coverage on the local news. Know what I'm saying? They always have stories about stuff going down in DC, maryland, and other countys..maybe it's just me

yea me and my mom were up there last night and she asked some of the people workin the store next door and some of the people standing outside. They said that some guy tried to take his girlfriend against her will and the cops where called and once he was surrounded he shot himself.

well this area has its share of crime happening, but u wont find that out from reading the Post or watching the local 6 oclock news. news people get their stories from listening to Police scanners but fairfax doesn't broadcast serious crime over the radio they are simply sent to the cruisers laptop. i think thats one reason why u wont hear any crime in the area. atleast not as soon as they happen, they always wait few days until all the investigation is done before u hear it. for example, a week or so ago i was chillin and smoking shisha with friends in the Skyline area when all of a sudden there was a burst of gunfire and the next thing u know u got police cruisers all ova the place, i even saw Alexandria PD and K9. anyways, i looked so hard to find more info about it, by going to the PD site and there was nothing. so after few days later they burry that in the Weekly accident report thingy, and say someone was arrested for firing shots into the air and a moving car.

This story reminds me of the man who committed suicide at the Kings Park Shopping Center. I heard he had shot himself in the head under one of the big trees facing Burke Lake Road, because his girlfriend broke up with him. I do know that the Washington Post ran a snippet about the story, but none of the local TV news stations would touch it, quoting one assignment desk editor at the time: "We don't do suicides". JLA 7

Did the Ruby Tuesday on Van Dorn had something to do with the incident? I went to go eat there on that day to find a fire truck, two ambulances, and a police car blocking the restaurant entrance. We decided to go to Panera and got caught in the dozen cop cars as they were pulling up to block the Safeway parking lot for the helicopter landing.

the 12 cop cars were there because they pulled a guy over for a window tint violation. the ambulances were their because the cops shot the guy in the car.

The man who comitted suicide @ Kings Park shopping Center was my brother-in law, my son is named after him. My ex-husband and his brother were identical twins--they were 21 when it happened. It was not b/c of his girlfriend breaking up with him, there were numerous other factors involved. I did not know the family at the time (1998), so my version of the story is second-hand, but my understanding is that he was a wonderful person who was going through a rough time emotionally.
I'm appalled at the lack of information or records available about the incident--it merited 102 words in the Washington Post. A-holes! The cops could have shot to wound, used rubber bullets, tried any number of things to disarm him, but they didn't--know why?? B/c they didn't give a flying fuck about some 21yr old kid with dreadlocks who had committed a (very minor and totally victimless) crime!
So they chose to allow him to take his life in front of a group of onlookers that I believe included his mother (an INCREDIBLE woman who absolutely epitomizes unconditional love, has a never-ending capacity to forgive, purely kind--a saint), little sister, girlfriend, and my ex-husband arrived @ the scene seconds after he had pulled the trigger & rode in the ambulance w/ him to the hospital.
This event had an enormous impact on the family-naturally-and should not have been swept under the rug like that. Fairfax County police should have done something other than fucking watch!! Unbelievable.

No Law Enforcement agency in the entire united states is ever trained to shoot to wound someone. If someone hasa gun, and you shoot them in the leg, they can keep shooting, and take either the officer's life, or an innocent bystander.
In the words of Sgt.Apone from the movie Aliens "What are we supposed to use, harsh language?" He had a gun. The cops shot him. Sorry his mom and family got to witness it. What if they'd witnessed him shooting innocent bystanders?
As for the Post article, lots of people are killed by various means in this area every day, and get one or two lines about it.
