I started as a bus boy at Buckaroo in 1975. I was moved up to a cook in a matter of months. The place was great...run by a guy named Jim Hatfield who claimed to be related to the famous Hatfield family. He looked the part...drank like a fish. There were after closing drinking parties there almost every night with his buddies from UPS, which was farther up in the industrial park on Port Royal Road(?).

Sometimes I would come in to prep for Saturday breakfast and they would all still be there from drinking Friday night. They all wanted another beer with tomato juice in it with their steak and eggs breakfast.

My dad worked at Emerson Steakhouse at 15th and K in 1975 and he loved it there as a cook serving hundreds of people with all the steak you can eat, all the beer and wine you can drink including all the salad you can eat. Mr. Nima was his manager and he made them feel like it was their own place. He worked there with joy and happiness seeing his friends everyday. They were only allowed to drink coca-cola in a beer pitcher and it was half coca-cola and half rum all day long. What a good old time. I wish I could see more pictures and articles of the chain restaurant besides the matchbook.
Even looking at the matchbook brought back a lot of good memories.
This location was two blocks north of 14 and M st where butterfly, golden rooster, this is it strip club was and you could buy more cocaine and other drugs than salt and pepper from grocery store.

I remember those UPS guys drinking about 5 pm at the one at Ravensworth about 1971-72.I would get the chopped steak baked tater bread shrooms and a salad and a sticky sweet soda after pulling into the joint off 495 I also like the Rustler on Rt 50 which became a Lone Star and the Ponderosa on 237 Lee Hwy in Fairfax City where Joes Pizza and pasta went in much later now closed a good 10 years

DAJAX They were all cheap and good just like York Steak House at Fair Oaks mall another fav I also ate at a place with red white candy striped waitresses in 1964 and 68 in Amarillo Texas that was a joint that was named Big Texan Steak House and today its World famous https://www.bigtexan.com/

Wasn't 'only' a steakhouse, and definitely wasn't NoVa, but what was the name of that old time joint kind of near Capitol Hill that was basically "underneath" 395, as you were heading to go to the 14th Street Bridge into Va?

It would have been on the right, down below, and just before you got to that giant old church that looks over 395.

Thanks

No, Mr Action, but thanks.

It closed/was torn down around ten years ago, was called the market or something.

Thanks, though

Was a cheap Buckaroo like steak joint during the day and a hot night spot with cheap beer lots of girls and dancing at night, never went in there during the day but spent a many nights dancing like Cool Disco Dan while fast taking to the ladies and downing cold draft beers NO wonder so many young people are into Antifa they got rid of all the good clean fun NOW LOOK!

Sorry about that lousy Christ crack . I agree that was over the line, I'll behave and feel shamed , DAJAX One Of The few Honest men on FXU

Ahh..! The Black Orchid was a wonderful surprise in a common strip mall in Annandale back in its day , with their tables set up with glasses and tableware on white linen tablecloths. It's missed and sadly was a rarity here in Nova
