iPhone screen repair

Has anyone ever used a local place for iPhone screen repair vs. going to Apple?

Shattered my iPhone 4 screen today, less than 2 months before they release the 5, I'd rather pay to get it repaired than get te 4s now... I don't see the phone making it 2 months with the screen this way.

Just FYI, iPhone 5 is coming out on Sept 21. They're going to officially announce this on Sept 12.

The apple store will fix is while you wait and will diagnostic test it. $149. I did it. You need to make an appointment. You don't know what type of glass these other guys are putting in.

I fixed my myself with an ifixit kit - 100 bucks and you get all the tools you need. They're supposed to have first-rate glass and mine looks brand new. Since you have to pull the battery as part of dismantling it, I got a new battery for 20 bucks and swapped that out too. Lots of little screws but it was actually pretty easy.
