A-1 Towing
Posted by: Native. ()

So on this crappy Tuesday morning I realized that my car was towed of the public street from my apartment complex because it was "too close to the entrance"......right..... $125 later I get in my car and noticed loud knock coming from the rear. My car is 2 years old and was bought brand new, it is still under warranty and it is full time awd. There is no doubt in my mind that the tow truck driver probably dragged it from the front or the back instead of lifting the car on all four like he is supposed to, its a subaru so its not that hard to figure that one out. Is there anything I can do to prove my case that the tow company damaged the vehicle??? It will covered with no out of pocket cost to me but it's just the principal. Now I am stuck with the crappy courtesy loaner station wagon for the next week.....

Your insurance will pay for it. Next time don't park too close to an entrance.

Chalk it up to experience.

well the warranty will cover it but I am just pissed because there are people that park in exact same spot as I did everyday and rarely get towed......oh well

washtone, I agree with the guy. Parking illegally does not give anyone a right to damage your car, even to move it, unless there is a legit emergency (and they are warranted to do so, such as a fireman). Plus, with that ludicrous fee for a big nothing service, those tow co's can afford to be held accountable..

Fair enough. That's what small claims court is for.

Heh. I have heard firefighters will fuck up your car if you park next to a hydrant and there is a fire. This asshole, in a Beemer no less, deserved it!

Fuck the dime-a-dozen BMW, they have to get to the fire hydrant somehow. People are stupid to park next to a fire hydrant.

it just bothers me that people park next to yellow curb all the time and and rarely get a ticket but I get towed, I would be much happier with a parking ticket then having to pay $125. Not to mention they dragged my car out of the spot sideways because there was a car behind me, which makes no sense to me because they should have towed the guy behind me since he was closer to the entrance. I was parked at the curb(not the marked yellow) and was maybe 15 feet away from the stop sign. I have also realized that there is a huge scratch on my side skirt which pisses me off even more now. I will post a pic in minute

call the towing company bitch out the dude who answers, ask for supervisor, bitch him out, then call the police becuase someone stole your car and you recovered it damaged yourself. Ask them to come fingerprint it to find out who stole it. When they find it was the towing company, prosecute.

Was not stolen, it was towed....besides, making a false police report will get you in trouble

At least do a small claims court suit…….I think a corporation, such as the Towing Company…assuming INC., must by law, have an attorney present during the proceeding. You as a private citizen do not and as long as your case is not frivolous, which it doesn’t seem to be, you will probably settle with the tow company before ever getting in front of a Judge.

My guess, you’ll end up with less than you expect, but, the Tow company will take a sizable hit with the attorney costs, court costs, and damage costs.

I am not an attorney….so good luck

That sucks.

You can buy an AWD warning sticker, but I doubt a tow-truck operator can read. Still, this sticker does provide a handy visual reference:

the scratch is deep, my subaru service quoted me at $650 to fix that. I think I will go through and prosecute. Bad enough that I had to pay $125 for 20 minutes of "service" but now this!!!! Maybe I should buy that sticker and place it next to the windshield vin number. Since they have to read the vin before they tow the chances are that they will notice this. One of my neighbors is a tow truck driver with henrys and he told me that most of them know its just that they dont care and its a hard case to prove....whatever.

People want the "safety" of all wheel drive, but are too much of a pussy to buy a 4WD truck that can have the transfer case put in neutral so it doesnt break, are dumb. Buy a real truck if you want to have power go to all 4 wheels.

Tow truck drivers are scum of the earth, lowlife, uneducated poor mostly white trash who get their jollies from sticking it to morons like you who can't even park their car correctly. They should be shot on sight or at least used as target practice by MS13.

But, If you got towed you deserved it. I'm sure they took a picture of your crappy little shitbox parked over the line. Learn a lesson and park correctly because, Fucktard, if I see your shitbox parked over the line again I'll call them myself!

My car was towed today for parking at a giants parking lot. While paying $125, I noticed the guy at teh register had an visibal gun. I just paid and left but when i got home i notice something was missing and call teh towing company. They denied knowing anything about the car and said to call back. When I asked for their business number they could not provide it. if they can do this to me, they could probably do that to other people. My question is who do I complain to.

I wage WAR with A-1 towing. They used to patrol the Apartment complex I lived in, and I was towed within the first 5 minutes of living there, before I ever even knew the parking situation. I will not go into details about the methods that I use to wage war with these dickfaces, but I have fucked up a good number of A-1 tow trucks.

If people aren't afraid of the cops that read this board, I find it hard to believe they'd be afraid of the A-1 towing guys.

I guess in the future, if you are talking on the phone with a business, the business number is probably the one you just called.

Perhaps. I think admitting you vandalized a companie's gear on a public forum is pretty stupid.

You're assuming they know how to read and write and use the internets.

I think if he threw away his "I posted on fairfaxunderground.com under the username 'Shakey' and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" t-shirt, he should be fine.

Alternatively, the goons find him and beat his ass, and we all get a good chuckle out of it anyway.

It's win-win!

I almost got towed by those bitches... My car is AWD to but i cought them raising it up and bitched them out... Try contacting the better business bureau if nothing works and then try the Fairfax county fair business complaint form they have on there web page. Then if that does not work try getting a lawyer. These guys are sharks in there stupid trucks.

I can't stand towing companies. Basically, they can just TAKE your car, accuse you of having it parked in a "no parking zone" and demand payment. Don't pay? No car. Easy, right? They pay lobbyists to keep the "wheels of justice" rolling in their favor. Remember...the more people they rip-off, the more taxes they pay. I'd be interested in seeing what percentage of their tows are legitimate. Of course, you'd have to ask them......Want towing in your community? Just go to a towing company for all your "parking management needs". They set it all up for you, so, so nice. Don't like it? Get your neighbors to all sign a petition and present it to your HOA, or management company. Fight back. I did, I won. They are gone.

If you really want to put in the time;
Take them to court
Get a mechanics written statement as to what was fixed and if an improper towing could have caused it...maybe get two opinions
Report them to the better business bureau

Once they get a certain # of court claims, they can get shut down.

So, I found out what a "drop fee" was earlier this week.

My friend parked her car next to mine, and I figured since it was the middle of the day and the lot was empty, she'd be fine.

So, they lift the car, and we stop them before they can pull away. They said I could give them $25 on the spot for a "drop fee," or they were towing the car. I paid the drop fee, they pushed a button, and drove off. They said they were covered by Virginia law to do this.

Isn't that a little like extortion, though? It's not like the $25 was to cover labor charges, as they didn't even have to get out of the truck to do anything. The guys were total dickheads about it, too, and some random mexican guy kept yelling at me in spanish to call the police for some reason. It was a nice little scene.
