Five Guys

How does Five Guys stay so popular? They have a couple of things on the menu, and thrown in a bag of greasy fries, is this what people want? They do have Birch Beer on tap, so I do give them props for that.

People want simple, and that is what it is. It's not good, just simple. It's not cheap, just simple. The birgers are all well done, the fries are greasy and the place is sparse with music blasting in your ears. I'll pass.

At Five Guys I've noticed that there aren't that many little
kids around. No Happy Meals, no playground. The last time I
went to Mickey-D's however, there were hordes of screaming
third world brats running wild with little or no parental supervision.
I like Five Guys.

They have good burgers. They are greasy, too much to eat on a regular basis, but it's a good burger, better than McD's/Wnedy's/BK, etc. It's like a restaurant quality w/out sitting down in Fridays or whereever.

I hate the fries though. I agree that a greasy sack of fries in not very appealing, but the hubby and kids love them.

Plus, like HooLeo said, usually no screaming kids. My youngest is 11, I don't want to deal w/3-7yr olds running unsupervised while their parents eat 30ft away.

It's 50/50, don't like it, go to Chick-fil-A lol

As a counter to the no kids, I was in a Five Guys this weekend and it had six kids, probably some sort of sports team, in there with one adult who did not care to supervise them. They were throwing peanuts, stomping on peanuts, playing with the soda machine, and so on. At least at McDonald's they give them a play area to be confined to.

Five Guys is popular because it's simple good food. The days of Wendys, McDonalds and Burger King hamburgers are over. Food chains like In-And-Out and Five Guys are taking over. Why?

1. Their food is FRESH. They DO NOT SERVE FROZEN FOOD AT ALL. Anyone with a real understanding and taste for food can taste it. I can taste it and I don't even eat at Five Guys much...maybe once every few months.

2. Their fries are fresh cut EVERY MORNING and are never a day old cut or cooked.

See, all the people who don't get why fresh burgers are doing well are the same people who enjoy eating a half pound of salt on all their food.

I would say the burgers are under seasoned, if seasoned at all. The "cajun" fries are doused with so much cajun dust you cough when you open the bag. That said, Five Guys has the most "homemade" tasting burger out there". Like others have said, it is a simple concept, which people appreciate. I don't like my burgers at home to be as well done as they do them, but when you get the toppings, it balances things out.

One time I ordered two burgers to go. After I walked back to my office, there was only one burger and a giant whole in the paper bag. The bag got so greasy, one of the burgers fell out!

Considering the amount of grease in their food, they should seriously invest in some sturdier bags. The remaining burger was delicious though. :)

at some point Five Guys is going to expand thier menue, its the inevitable because they over expanded. The CEO is going to see flat sales and no growth. To increase sales and keep people coming throught the doors they'll add new menue items and slowly drift away from the burger and fry concept.

although it's just smooth PR, i'm a big fan of the founder zeroing in on both treating his employees humanely and quality ingredients as the most crucial elements to their winning formula. contrast that, say, with the golden arches, and I'm happy to fork over a few extra bones for a freshly made Five guys heart-attack-on-a-bun.

Hell, Bruce Dickinson famously said when asked if they'd ever use synths in their music as the instrument got popular in the 80's, "Well, you can't really make heavy metal with synthesizers."

Their next album? "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"...

As for 5Guys, eventually they'll expand their menu. They're not going to have offerings as diverse as Cheesecake Factory but, I could see them adding a chicken sammich, maybe sliders, onion ringage. They're not innovators so, it won't be anything they invent or develop themselves.

How does a Five Guys burger taste "fresh" or so much better than fast food. I find that all hamburger meat that is fried on a flat top all taste the same (ie. tasteless). One's that are broiled at a high heat or grilled over a flame taste 100 times better, even if they are previously frozen....
