Occoquan catfish safe to eat?

Does anyone know whether the fish caught in the Occoquan are safe to eat?

Do not take the chance. Tons of lawn fertilizer dumps into that river along with other nasty chemicals.

roll the dice with that one. Remember they are bottom feeders. Catfish can cook up great, and is good,but from the occoquan?.... I'm a smoker and drink heavy..and I would not eat it.

I believe the recommendation is to eat fish under 18" and that should be only once a month for the river below the dam. From the reservior eat all you want.

A lot of blacks have hepetitis because they consume too much catfish out of the potomac river. Head on over to the dc side of the river and look at all the black guys fishing. You will notice all of their eyes are slightly yellow. Dont risk it.

they are mostly from the gulf. white trash love eating crabs, just like the spade's love catfish, and the spics 7-11

Holy crap. I never put two and two together. All those old dudes are jaundiced. I just thought it was because they were alkies. The Hep C thing makes more sense. I always release fish from the Potomac. Those old black dudes used to ask for my catch which totally freaked me out. I won't even eat the stripers that swim up seasonally.

Too much mercury, catfish grow kind of slowly. Eat snake heads if you want a safe fish they grom fast enough the mercury isn't dangerous.
