Dog Days of Driving :(

so dig this - today, August 3 - is the 4th most deadly day on the roads in the US. Only New Years and the 3rd and 4th of July are more dangerous. And in fact, tomorrow and Monday make the list as well :(

anybody know why this is?

I'm guessing yesterday must have been a warmup Gordo. I never saw so many near misses and folks doing 10mph under the limit while texting.

I think it is because August is traditionally a bigger vacation month than July and June, a lot more people on the East Coast seem to head to the shore in August.

Halloween, St. Pat's and New Years Eve are big nights for DWI's because they are big party nights. I think the first week in August is big for fatalities because the weather is nice and more people are on the road or on vacation in strange driving locations.

@Bill - maybe so - nobody brought up the Parkway/123 accident from yesterday monring - I saw some Asian lady lying on the shoulder knocked the fuck out (I pray she's doing better today) yesterday around this time - I thought she was dead but I guess not since I havent heard about a fatality) Someone with NJ plates I guess pulled out from New Road and got creamed, I guess.

I'll bet that accident knocked the rice out of her mouth.

I saw a guy eating a bowl of cereal and texting while driving yesterday. He would put the bowl down, text, pick the bowl back up, eat a spoonfull, put it down, text... I was kind of hoping for him to run off the road into a ditch.

Simple...August is the month when all shrinks and therapists take their vacation. All the unstable can't face the thought of being on their own for a month and drive erratically . I personally go on vacation with my doctor. Well not really, it's more like stalking.
