I am just about to move to Fairfax with me 3 young children from Europe and want to find out more about the area and how things work. Are there any websites you can recommend?

As for how things work, we tip our waiters and waitresses. Generally 15-25% of the tab, depending on service.

its pretty much like anywhere else the united states where big box retail and shitty chain restaurants dominate the landscape. you can look forward to never being able to ride your bicycle anywhere for practical purposes. eating only the blandest and most nondescript food. every two or three miles looking exactly like the previous two or three miles. an eerie absence of relevant cultural events. people mind their own business and stay in their cars for the most part.

Where in Europe are you from? Your money will go much farther over here at current and you'll think our gas prices are a bargain. However things are vastly more conservative here than anywhere in Europe in many respects.
