You need to buy tickets for this fair. Rockville's Hometown Holidays this Sunday is free, has a lot of kid's entertainment, and has a concert Sunday night with Rick Springfield.

The following weekend, The Herndon Festival is also free with lots of children's entertainment The and a concert by The Pietastaters Friday Night, and Fastball Sunday.

Crystal City Rocks with the band Everclear performing, also for free on June 8.

So, not celebrating Fairfax with the kids this year.

I agree. The Fairfax Fair should be free to all County residents.

The big music concert Saturday night is Joan Jett.

By making the event "free" for all county residents, they would be breaking several Federal laws. Not even snobby Fairfax County could get away with something like that. They would have to make it free for everyone, with no residency restrictions.

What law would they be breaking? Fairfax County Parks charge different rates for residents and non-residents?

I never said "different rates." I questioned "free" for Fairfax residents, implying "not free" for non residents.

Do you have a learning disability?

They could not offer a public event for free to only Fairfax Residents; there are many laws against such a practice. The laws are based on the articles of confederation towards these United States. Travelers (citizens of another state), when traveling, cannot be denied rights and privileges of the jurisdiction they are traveling in. So, if I am traveling in Fairfax that weekend from Rockville, Fairfax cannot deny me any rights they afford Fairfax citizens; I can call the police, use the roads, call the fire department if my car caught on fire, walk in the county building, drop trash in a public trash can, and, in this case, use the park.

Your example is flawed, but somehow I just knew it would come. I wouldn't be "traveler" if I were taking a nature course or using Fairfax's summer school program; I would be a commuter. I would be a "traveler" if I came to Fairfax from Rockville to see Joan Jett on Fairfax County land. If Fairfax wants to charge me 10 bucks to do so, that price must be the same as any Fairfax resident buying a ticket at the same time.

Got it?.... I hope so.

What is the difference between no-cost for County residents here and no-cost for County residents at Burke Lake Park or at recycling events? There's nothing illegal about it at all and it is done all the time... I'm afraid you are the idiot here.

I would not be considered a "traveler" if I went from Rockville to Burke with an old tv I was planning on leaving there, and then going home; I would be considered a trash hauler. However, if I got a flat tire while in Fairfax, Fairfax must treat me and the tire the same way as they treat regular residents. In other words, they cannot charge me a higher recycling fee for the bad tire than they would a county resident.

I can use Fairfax's infrastructure just like any Fairfax citizen when I am traveling. "Traveling," get it? Key word her is "traveling."

What is with this inability to comprehend a simple postulate here?

No, I am not. The inability of many on this board to grasp a simple concept is mind blowing. People who have no debating experience argue on this board in a manner that is irritating, and logically inept. As you can read on this thread, several here had made stupid retorts, and used their inane responses to draw inept, illogical conclusions.

If these are the products of the current FCPS, then the school system her has failed us all miserably.

FUNdamental-

I'm not sure who is right or wrong here, but it should be noted that the ONLY "law" you've referenced is the "articles of confederation"- a document that hasn't been enforceable since the 1700's.

It's hard to grasp your concept when you haven't presented any facts. I.E. What laws are you talking about?

What does helping one with a tire (often a VDOT action or a private tow action, not a Fairfax County thing) have to do with charging non-residents for a County-paid event?

Then why did Virginia have higher traffic fines for only Virginians?

The key word here is abridge which means to reverse Federal laws with a State law. Such as starting a rogue State that doesn't follow Federal laws or standards. An example would be Virginia not requiring the FDA to grade meats or a drinking age below the federal limit like 12 years old.

What does this have to do with not charging residents at a county fair event?

Are you saying there are federal standards for charging people at county fairs or it is a public emergency service mandated by Congress?

You know, some accept newly acquired knowledge as a gift, and they respect their teacher for enlightening them. Others disparage the teacher and the lessons, thus blockading themselves from intellectual improvement.
