What is a good place in Northern VA to get All-You-Can-Eat Crab legs?
Posted by: Hungry Man ()

My wife and family are hankering for some All-You-Can-Eat Crab legs. But what's a good place to go in Northern VA?

I've already googled it and was surprised that there were only a few places. I live in Herndon and would like to stay close to that area and not have to go to Arlington if I can help it. You guys have been great in the past with other suggestions!

There are only a few I know about. They are:

1) Hokkaido Seafood Buffet in Falls Church, VA

2) Whitlow's On Wilson in Arlington, VA

3) Phillips Flagship Restaurant and Seafood in DC

4) Mighty Mikes in Sterling VA

not sure of any more in the area.

Used to go to Captin Pell's in Fairfax for the all you can eat, but they had blue crab most of the time. Still a great place to get a bite to eat, the Old Bay seasoning is just right.

The Quarterdeck on Ft. Meyer Drive in Arlington does a good job.

Go to Giant and buy a few pounds and have them steam them for you. Takes all of about 15 minutes. Then you can go home and relax and make as big of a mess as you want eating them.

Todai at Fair Oaks mall. While it's not an all you can eat place, it is a buffet and almost always has crab lets and huge peel and eat shrimp.

Tims River Shore in Woodbridge (just over the bridge on 123) ... They're always having midweek deals. Much better than captain pells!

I like Quarterdeck, used to live right next to the place. I don't remember them having crab legs though, just blue crab. Jet noise (not as bad as it used to be) and Old Bay, all part of the charm.

As for Phillips Flagship, it's OK but not impressive. For one thing you can't just go straight to the crab legs and take just what you want. You have to stand in a big single file line and wait for-ev-er as you file past all the fried glop that you don't want to eat.

If only we had Captain George's in NOVA. You have to go to Hampton or Virginia Beach for that.

Tims is Way down off Rt. 1 in Dumfries.

Your local Harris Teeter has snow crab clusters for $6.99/lb.

http://flyer.harristeeter.com/HT_eVIC/ThisWeek/index.jsp?ID8541

You pay $27 for a pound and a half at Captain Pells. For roughly the same price, you can get 3 times as much. You can have the Teet steam them for you, or do it home which is quite easy.

Backyard has a seafood cash bar on Tuesdays, and Bungalows has theirs on Wednesday- I think their crablegs are 8 bucks a lb. I've only been to Bungalows and it was really good! It's from 5-8, I beleve.
Both are located in Chantilly.

Not all you can eat, but on Tuesdays, Dogwood in Falls Church has a Raw Bar.

TUESDAY NIGHT
RAW BAR 4 PM - Close
$3.49 ¼ LB. OF SHRIMP
$3.49 ½ DOZEN RAW OYSTERS
$3.49 ½ DOZEN STEAMED CLAMS
$3.49 1 DOZEN SAUTEED MUSSELS
$7.00 2 SNOW CRAB CLUSTERS

That being said, I am heading over to HT and am going to steam my own. Thanks for the heads up.

Chesapeake Bay Seafood House? FDidn't they go out of business like 20 years ago? That place really started to suck towards the end.

Tim's (a great place) is indeed down in Dumfries, but Water's Edge in Woodbridge is one traffic light down from the Rt. 1/Rt. 123 light and has all you can eat crabs practically every day. It's a bit of a dive, but I had the best she-crab soup there last month and will definitely be back.

I remember how good they were in the late 80's.. I honestly didn't know they were still around.

Are they any good or a failure now?

CBSH was good back in the late 80s. Then one day we went to dinner there and they told us that we couldn't get all you can eat crab legs for $20 anymore. You got like a pound and then you could get anything else BUT crab legs all you can eat. At the same time they raised the price to $30.
Did not go back for a long time after that. Sometime in the 1990's I went again but there was no more all-you-can-eat it was just a standard menu like Red Lobster. Also you could tell they had really cut corners because the furniture was getting old and tattered. And they must have been paying the wait staff peanuts and treating them like crap because they all seemed sullen and angry. After that I didn't go back and shortly afterwards it closed.
I haven't seen one since the mid-1990s.

Simpsons: Homer vs The Frying Dutchman
http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/64822/detail/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lionel Hutz: Mrs. Simpson, in your own words, please tell us what happened after you and your husband were ejected from the restaurant.
Marge: We pretty much went straight home.
Lionel Hutz: Remember, Mrs. Simpson, you're still under oath.
Marge: We drove around until 3:00 in the morning looking for another open all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant.
Lionel Hutz: And when you couldn't find any?
Marge: (crying) We went fishing!
Lionel Hutz: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, does this sounds like a man who had "all he could eat"?
Actually, you're right. Not all you can eat, but a pound of crab for about $10 is pretty good.
Same answer, just go to teeter/wegmans/etc and get some and have them steam them. Just check your sales ads, usually one of the grocery stores will have some on sale for $5.99-8.99 a pound.
[rant]And whoever is spamming with these big ass pictures of black people stop it. you are not funny and are a sorry troll if that is all you can think of to do, especially on MLK day.[/rant]
