What are police looking for on rt 28 south before I-66 on weekday afternoons?

It's parking lot, bumper to bumper traffic the whole way down from Dulles to I-66 and I always see motorcycle fairfax police on the shoulder looking intently for something. The shoulders are too narrow for cheaters, especially now with the construction, and speeding is obviously impossible.

They used to scope out Rt29 south near the PWC border... people would buy donuts at the Dunkin Donuts on 29 in Centreville and leave that way. Now those buyers have gotten wise and are going back north on 29 to get on 28 and the police have moved their checkpoint accordingly.

Sounds like easy pickings for expired plate and expired inspection violations. See something expired, walk out and tell the person to pull onto the shoulder. There's practically no effort required, just sit there and look at stickers. If they're close enough to the park there north of 66, they can get red-light violators really quickly too.

I suppose it's also a good way to keep officers nearby to handle routine incidents that are bound to happen in backups like that - breakdowns, fender benders, etc. In the case of accidents, I'm sure the Fire Department appreciates the quick response so the entire road can be closed as quickly as possible.

From Out of Control. An Informal History fo the Fairfax County Police

…AND THE GUN JUST WENT OFF, JUST LIKE THAT. REALLY. NO REALLY, IT DID.
In August of 1971, an off-duty Fairfax County cop shot and killed himself at his home in Arlington. Arlington police ruled his death “accidental”. Life insurance played no role in the finding. No, really, it didn’t otherwise it could have been termed a suicide.

Accidents happen all the time in traffic like that. Dummies get impatient and start checking emails and texting people and not paying attention anymore, then BAM - into the bumper of the car in front.

I assume you know that after a certain amount of time has passed from opening a life insurance policy (two years is normal now) if you die by suicide it doesn't affect a payout.

What does this have to do with the cops sitting on RT28? What does this have to do with anything at all. In 1971 most of us reading this was not even alive yet. Not to mention Arlington County Police investigated and ruled it an accident.

OH I GET WHAT YOU MEAN ......Fairfax County Police invaded Arlington and made them rule it an accident. Yeah I see it now. Thanks for opening all of ours eyes to how Fairfax County rules Arlington.

That was 41 years ago. I am confident every single member of both departments have long since retired or moved on. So what's the point?

And for the record... many people in Fairfax County are shot accidentally with their own guns. It just happens that most live. And they might even have life insurance too!

To answer the question....

When traffic is light.. they are using LIDAR to catch people doing 65 in the 45 MPH zone.

When traffic backs up... they are looking for people passing on the shoulder, no seatbelts, dead inspections, expired tags, tint, and no front tags.

A local contractor has been hiring illegals and the murdering them at the end of the job to avoid paying them. FCPD received a tip that the bodies were dumped there.

Shades of Juan Corona. He killed and dumped 26 bodies of veggie
pickers. Just protecting his operating cash by not paying.
