Charges Filed Against Youths in Group Attack
Ten youths accused of attacking and assaulting a 14-year-old Fairfax County girl May 10 have been charged with felony malicious wounding, assault by mob and robbery, police said yesterday.
The incident occurred just after midnight in the Burke Centre area, near Oak Leather Drive and Burr Oak Way, police said. The girl, who lives in Burke, was walking with friends when she was confronted by a group of six girls and four boys, who assaulted her and stole her cellphone and jacket, police said. The girl suffered "some cuts to her face and some bruises," said Officer Eddy Azcarate. The girl ran to a nearby home for help and was later taken to a hospital by her mother, hesaid.
The attack was not random, Azcarate said, though he said he did not know the circumstances or motive. The suspects range in age from 12 to 15. Azcarate said the incident was not gang-related.
