Romney bombs in London, and can't wait to get to Jerusalem
U.S. Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who arrives in Israel on Saturday, managed to offend his U.K. hosts by casting aspersions on their chances of pulling off a successful Olympics, and was snubbed in turn by PM David Cameron.

LONDON - Republican presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, must wish he was already on the next stop of his foreign tour, in Jerusalem, where he will undoubtedly be getting better treatment than he has so far on his initial visit to London. So far, he has managed to offend his hosts by casting aspersions on their chances of pulling off a successful Olympic Games and been snubbed in turn by Prime Minister David Cameron, who met him in his office, but failed to greet him for a photo-opportunity at the famous door of 10 Downing Street.

Romney's trip to Britain, Israel and Poland was designed to allow him to boost his foreign-policy credentials and bask in the Olympian glory, as the man who ten years ago, single-handedly saved the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. But it was this past success that caused him to put his foot in it, on Wednesday evening when in an interview with NBC, he was asked about the problems London has been having with training security staff and traffic congestion before the Games. "You know, it's hard to know just how well it will turn out," Romney answered. "There are a few things that were disconcerting, the stories about the – private security firm not having enough people – the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging."

Understandably, this was taken by the British as casting doubt on their capabilities as Olympic organizers and when Cameron was asked about this the next morning, he shot back that "we are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere." In other words, Romney had it made out in the Utah desert. Not something he should be taking too much credit for. And this was Romney whose aides have been saying can understand the British much better than Obama, because he is descended from Mormon converts in northern England and shares a joint Anglo-Saxon heritage.

Afterwards the two met, and despite previous speculation that Cameron would greet his guest outside, he was not at the door and the two were photographed only sitting inside. This time Romney was much more enthusiastic about London 2012, saying to reporters after the meeting that "I expect the games to be highly successful," even saying that he himself had made mistakes when he was in charge of the Salt Lake City Games.

The Olympics interview wasn't the only gaffe Romney committed in London. Eyebrows were raised when in a meeting with the leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband, Romney called him "Mr Leader" and again when after his meeting with Cameron, he said that the two had discussed security issues and the situation in the Middle East, mentioning that the he had met also with the head of Britain's overseas intelligence service, MI6, Sir John Sawers, another breach of diplomatic protocol, as meetings with intelligence chiefs are not matters that politicians normally talk about in public. British political bloggers immediately took Romney to task for this, the Daily Telegraph's Peter Foster tweeting "Romney talks about his meetings with MI6 on steps on Downing St. Isn't it convention not to speak about these things?"

Mitt Romney, in his first trip abroad as the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, is trying to walk back comments he made questioning London's Olympics preparation -- comments that have drawn a sharp response from Prime Minister David Cameron.

The dustup began Wednesday, as Romney, who ran the 2002 Salt Lake City games, said there were "disconcerting" signs in the days before this year's games.

"The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials -- that obviously is not something which is encouraging," he told NBC News.

"Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? And that's something which we only find out once the games actually begin," he said.

Cameron soon rebuked Romney. "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course, it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere," he said.

"I think we will show the whole world not just that we come together as a United Kingdom, but also we're extremely good at welcoming people from across the world," Cameron added. "I will obviously make those points to Mitt Romney. I look forward to meeting him."

In comments before meeting with Labour Party leader Ed Milliband, Romney was more measured. "My experience with regards to the Olympics is it is impossible for absolutely no mistakes to occur," he said. "Of course, there will be errors from time to time, but those are all overshadowed by the extraordinary demonstrations of courage, character and determination by the athletes."

Get real. Yet another trivial story that will have traction only with partisans who aren't changing their votes anyway.

The Obamadrones better come up with something better than this kind of lame stuff. It ain't working.

What a complete ass-hat. The GOP picked a good one, this time. The correct answer is, "I think the games will be great! It's a great time to be in London!"

The man could fuck up a wet dream.

In 3 weeks and again in 3 months when Obama will still be running from "you didn't build that," this will be a forgotten story.

The funny part is that because they buy this kinda bs they think that anyone else does. lol

Meanwhile Romney's numbers continue to rise, Obama's continue to fall with his favorable ratings growing lower because he's no longer perceived as the hopey changey golden boy who was supposed to be above all that.

Nit, or what British papers are calling, George W Romney, could literally ruin a wet dream, what a loser. This is a candidate with absolutely nothing to offer: dishonest, flip flopping, a dumb blonde in an old white guy suit.

Romney screwed the pooch, in this case the Queen's corgi's. But really, it wasn't that big of a deal. I think Obama's thinking the Wisconsin flag was the flag for a local union, was much more embarrasing. Yet do we hear of that? Nope. Thanks again "mainstream media."
