Fairfax County Police will not be charging the driver who ran his car into a Blake Lane utility pole July 12, which closed down westbound traffic for about two hours.
A 69-year-old male driver of a white Ford Ranger was traveling westbound on Blake Lane when he drifted out of the right lane onto the right-side curb near Hibbard Street and into a mailbox, said police spokesperson Officer Bud Walker. The car continued, striking a utility pole, which disabled the vehicle and broke the pole.
The crash was reported to police at about 4:06 p.m. July 12. The report did not explain what caused the driver to drift off the road, Walker said.
Because the driver sustained minor injuries, police will not release the driver's name. No other vehicles were involved, nor was the Ford Ranger carrying any passengers other than the driver.
Police shut down westbound traffic in the area for about two hours while the vehicle was removed from the scene. No power outages resulted from the broken pole, but Dominion Virginia Power was on scene to replace it.
